However this guy is far from great.
Agreed, I am really having a hard time seeing Milner as some fantastic player who will solve all our problems and would prefer to have an attacking midfielder of a higher calibre and consistency.

i'm in this camp. i like the player, but no way should we be looking at making him one of our "Big" (in terms of fee) signings this summer - imo he is simply not worth it. This is a deal that bites both ways too - we pay well over the odds for a good player, and MoN gets a fat wad of cash to spend on more players to improve Villa.

come on that's not a valid argument, do you think anyone reckons Milner will solve our right back problem? The fact is we are crying out for a top class attacking mid and it seems that Milner is the man earmarked to solve that particular problem.
some people don't think he is good enough for this role, and certainly not at this kind of price.
are you happy giving a direct competitor £30-odd million?

But this is the problem with all perceptions of City's signings, and always has been. They are supposed to be "some fantastic player who will solve all our problems". Exactly the same nonsense which Barry has suffered from.
Whereas in fact we are looking to bring in talent (hopefully English) to the squad which will improve what we had previously. In this case perm one from Ireland, Petrov, or maybe just Petrov.
At this level - and we are looking to win the league - you have to pay to get these people, and raise the level signing by signing.
For goodness sake stop treating every signing as if they're supposed to be a panacea for our ills.

It's a very valid argument as people get on players backs because they expect them to be super-special from the off. Personally I would say this is Petrov's replacement and there is more to come.
As to giving Villa money I dont give a flying fuck. What the hell has that got to do with it? Are they going to go out and buy Torres? They're falling way behind us already. What a daft way of thinking.
MiB you need to realise that Villa wont be our 'competitor' this season, Scum, Chelsea and maybe Arsenal will.
Villa indeed!

I think you are both right. Milner is one season wonder I believe and in completely different kind of environment I fear he'd flop badly.
We need someone with a football brain, Milner has none.

That quote is gonna bite the shit out of you.
I value him at about 25m, given he cost Villa 12m, we're in the most expensive market ever (a lot of which has to do with us) and the fact that we are buying the English Premier League's YPOTY.
To say he has no football brain is absolutely hilarious. Fucking comical actually.
