Gai Assulin in talks with city(pics at coms)

Postby Green & Blue » Wed Aug 04, 2010 11:18 pm

Interesting this, hes a highly rated player and was expected to break into the 1st team at Barcelona before injury saw him miss last season. He had signed a 3 year deal with them when 16 with a sell on clause of 20 million euros tied into the deal.Well worth a look considering hes now a free agent after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.
Sorry if already covered.
The below is taken from ssn.

Manchester City are reportedly closing in on a deal for former Barcelona starlet Gai Assulin.

Israel international Assulin is thought to be training at City after being released by Barcelona earlier this summer.

Assulin was regarded as one of the best young prospects to come through the ranks at Barca, but he failed to make an impact in the first team due to injury and competition for places

The midfielder made his debut for Barcelona at the age of just 16, but a lack of first-team chances has seen him look elsewhere to continue his career.

The 19-year-old became Israel's youngest ever international when he represented his national team just a few days before he turned 17.

News of Assulin's availability alerted a number of clubs, but it appears City are in pole position to land the player.

City boss Roberto Mancini is keen to bring in some young talent and he could be prepared to loan him out so that he can continue his development before challenging for a spot in City's star-studded line-up.

Why would we want a player which Blackburn didn't want? I'm sure fat Sam just had him on a 10 day trial up there... Seen it on SSN whilst I was off... New Leo messi blah blah

With name like that. I don't know. You don't even have to make things up.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

...well - could be that clubs like Blackburn, Bolton and quite a few others cannot afford to nurture talent - just need a capability to quickly join 1st team squad - whereas clubs like ourselves can afford that investment and have the set up - just thinking

exactly....and if you have a choice between

a) signing for an English manager with a good reputation for signing top players at the end of their careers and eking out one last hurrah from them

or

b) joining a club with a youth set up recognised as one of the best, with a manager who has a track record of giving young players a chance

which one would you prefer to join and/or be best suited to be signed by

I thought I read on here a few days ago that he didn't turn up for the trial at Blackburn. Not surprising when you look at how shite they are really and he found out we were interested.

I'm still curious to know why the contract was cancelled 'by mutual consent' though.

Xavi, Iniesta, Fabragas, Busquets... he could be a world class young talent but even if he is, nudging these guys out a team is gonna be nigh on impossible.

He probably wanted to try his hand breaking into a slightly weaker mid elsewhere.

From Wiki, for what it's worth:

2010-2011 season
On August 4 2010 it was published that Manchester City F.C. decided to sign Assulin [14] although no official announcement has yet been made.

Strange though, Andy (my Stokie mate) said that he was going on trial to them after we'd turned him down?

If his agent has ever seen Stoke play, that's got to be a non starter.

It's not about that though is it, seems like the lad is open to any offer. Arsenal have apparently been following this Gai for a long time, yet now he is on a free, they're nowhere to be seen. Why?

not this i believe. read that he got injured and then during re-hab he fell out with staff due to the training they were doing or not doing. Basically he fell with them over his treatment. hence the mutual consent thing.

by the way he played against City in the friendly at the Camp Nou. From what i can remeber he is a typical barca style player and was as good on the ball as all the rest of them.. pedro etc. They are all just clones at the end of the day. Would be a FG signing imo.

Probably better than a lot of the lads from our academy at present, if not all.
