Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

john68 wrote:Your conclusion that the poor League positions was all the result of our success in cup competitions is absolutely ridiculous to say the least. It seems that you have set your agenda and closed your mind to anything else.
One cannot have an open discussion with a mind that is closed.
I'll leave you with it then...Good luck.

City's Major trophy's were won over three seasons, and in all three we had either a good league position or cups, never both;

1967-68 - Champions - No Cups
1968-69 - Poor Finish - 2 Cups
1969-70 - Poor Finish - 3 Cups

I believe it was Les Brown who said "Shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you'll land among the stars." Thats why I want City to aim for the Premiership now and over the coming seasons we'll pick up these smaller glories along the way.

I dont see how winning the reserves cup will help us win other things. I dont believe in that mentality bollocks, that was a pathetic theory invented by baconface to reassure the munichs after a poor season when they couldnt win anything worthwhile. I dont buy it.

Of course, it had nothing to do with Abramovich's cash... get a grip, Chelsea then were City now, the difference is we have more cash, more fans and more potential.

Sorry mate. Im not sure I understand what point you're trying to make there. If Chelsea then were City now, then why was this cup unimportant? Cash, fans and money have no relevance. The fact is, after Mourinho won that cup he went on to the premiership.

The fact that the top 3 dont take this trophy particularly seriously has made it a crap competition, five years ago I would have given my right arm for that trophy but now I just cant get excited by it. I dont believe it is arrogance, I think it is a sad state of affairs caused by the former top 4.

I was like that last year in the cup run. Fulham was a dire affair that I would never want to be subjected to again and found it hard to get out of my seat. Then onto the Scunny game where even though we whooped em, the victory just seemed a little hollow cos I wasn't there. The Arsenal game came and went without even a whisper from me, because I, like you, realised it was a meaningless trophy and was wondering why I was spending my hard earned money supporting the lads.

And finally, the semi's against our bitter rivals United. I set off to the ground without the usual butterflies or the pre-match nerves and when I got there complained to my mate about how selfish of the club to stay in the cup and drag me out of my pit on a cold, damp January evening. I think we won that one but let's face it, who cares?

I was glad that they come back at theirs and knocked us out otherwise I'd have had the drudgery of traipsing all the way down to that shit-hole to watch us try for a trophy, that truthfully, no-one gives a fuck about - I thought it quite strange that the rag fuckers even taunted me with it given the nature of the trophy, and they put out a few good sides to seal the wins?

So yeah, you're right. A meaningless cup that the fans should have no interest in; I know I didn't. Oh why did I waste my time and money?

Possibly one of the most depressing posts that I have ever read.

I feel genuinely sad that any City fan can feel that way.

Winning the Premiership had absolutely nothing to do with the Carling Cup, it had much more to do with the fact that they had bought all the best players and were playing the best football, they were going to win it anyway, just as City are going to in the near future.

Apologies beefy. My sarcasm detector is usually a highly tuned instrument, this one must have slipped through the net, losing it in my old age.

We have a manager that sees the big picture. That is why he will be given the time he needs to succeed as well as the resources.

Easy for you to say as we won today.
If we'd under-performed and been beaten you'd be saying fuck all lol

Today's win takes none of the sting out of giving up on a tournament for me.

Actually winning today does take the sting out, I am happy and warm and possibly very drunk at the moment though.

Still, giving up our best route to silverware will sing like a hangover tomorrow.

Results like todays make the whole team bond, and believe just a little bit more in Mancini.

Any little sign of unrest should be forgotten about now, Mancini just helped us to a fucking awesome result. This makes up for the sunderland loss AND Blackburn draw

I'm so fucling happy with today's result I even bought a round for the whole bar,

Those who have said Mancini is poor on tactics, a cunt, should leave now etc should respond with the same passion as they did mid week to today's game

What a day what a win

There is still a long way to go but fucl me today felt good especially as if the result had Been anything less the nay sayers and doom merchants would have had a field day

It' feels sometimes like the internal fight is more difficult than the opposition on the pitch

Big one Bobby manc, I hope the support keeps the belief
