Tackling is a part of the game. When did that change??

I heard this and it was the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard!!! He said "it's time to ban tough tackling midfielders", "in this day and age we should be able to put out a team to just play the beautiful game".

It would end up like a game of basketball if that happened, 25 lovely passes and a goal, then down the other end, 15 fancy flicks and another goal. For every fancy dan player you need someone to stop them playing it's the basics of football.

I had it on all the way down the M6. The woman beater just had an agenda going. He just kept going on about it being malicious, high (which it certainly wasn't) he said on a few occasions the DJ didn't play (and didn't attempt to play) the ball, and kept on dramatising the whole thing constantly saying he "snapped" his leg. This was interspersed with constant our penno that should never have been given and their stonewall that wasn't given. He was doing his normal phone in crap, long righteous indignation type chats with those who agreed with him and shouting down anyone who didn't. Then a bit later he started spouting on about red scouse and their "proud tradition" The agenda was so obvious it was pathetic.
In fact the people on after his bit finished (not sure who they all were, although Kit Symons was there) were saying in a polite way that they felt he had an agenda.

Are you deliberately trying to give everyone the impression that you're a wanker?

Anyway, back in the world of normal human beings; it's an awful shame what's happened to the lad but having seen it again, if they 'do' DeJong for that, they'd better give Paul Scholes & about 50 other people a retrospective 20 game ban each. I asked two full scale rags about it before I'd seen the replay & neither thought there was even a question of a problem with the challenge.

Do you think i give a shit what you think? Go suck some PC dick somewhere and don't quote me if you dont like what i say. I enjoyed watching the replay over and over. Do i give a shit about the guy? NO. end off.

Ps. Your a wanker

To try to get the tread back on topic, it seems like the tackle have made quite some reactions in his home country...
Here is an article in the Algemeen Dagblad: http://www.ad.nl/ad/nl/1001/AD-Sportwereld/article/detail/516929/2010/10/03/Hugo-Borst-Nigel-de-Jong-is-een-crimineel.dhtml

Translated (badly) by Google:

AMSTERDAM - Hugo Borst Nigel de Jong has tonight after his attack on Newcastle United striker Hatem Ben Arfa, earlier in the day, severely condemned. In Studio Soccer columnist called the AD and NIS analyst player Manchester City and Orange, a''criminal.

Hugo Borst. PHOTO PRO SHOTS
Apparently, De Jong himself despite warnings that he will not curb. Coach Bert van Marwijk has said that, Frank de Boer has said what, but it does not by that boy. That has to do with intelligence. It ongeloolfijk. Nigel de Jong is a shame for the Dutch football.
Hugo Borst

In the brutal tackle Ben Arfa was Sunday afternoon three minutes after a double leg fracture. The 23-year-old Frenchman broke his left tibia and fibula, will undergo surgery Monday and then have to recover for months.

Breast, and the guests Tom van 't Hek and Sparta coach in January Everse, kapittelden De Jong, who in the recent past (World Cup finals and international matches against Japan and the United States) have gone beyond the pale in Dutch team.

Borst, who in AD Sportwereld in Studio Voetbal previously wrote and spoke about the "problem-De Jong:" Apparently it is only something that analysts, because in football you hear anyone. I've won many a column written about, and I also do not get my point, but Nigel de Jong is a repeat offender, a criminal. I dare say. Some criminals can not help it because it is hereditary. But apparently, De Jong himself despite all the warnings he gets, not restrain it. "

,, Coach Bert van Marwijk has said that, Frank de Boer has said what, but it does not by that boy. That has to do with intelligence. It's incredible. Nigel de Jong is a shame for the Dutch football.''

Van 't Hek: "It is a real problem. And not just by Nigel himself, including the coaches, clubs and federations that allow this behavior. Should we wait until it even worse?''

Everse, "He is the Dutch national team soon further disadvantage. Referees are biased towards later matches of Orange. There is more and more like him must be considered. Has he said that nothing was going on? Then he really a psychiatrist. Then it is time that he set them treated.''

Just been reported on Twitter that De Jong has been dropped by Holland for "that tackle" - what a joke.

On the plus side he gets a nice two rest so will be ready when we go to Blackpool on the 17th, good stuff.

i hope Nige gives them the middle finger from now on,..Holland would not have made it so far in the WC without him and i now hope they fuck up at every opportunity......i cannot believe they have watched footage of the challenge and based their decision on that...they are handling straight from what the media has spouted, utter cunts and i hope van Marwijk dies along with his oh so gently and graciously tackling son-in-law van Bummelcunt son of a whore.

I honestly can't believe that they would drop a very "in form" Nigel de Jong because of yesterday

If they do....its silly

If they do and still call up Mark "GBH" Van Bommel then it's just a farce

Indeed. Van Bommel is a vile character on the field. He is genuinely viscious.

To bo honest, there was less malice in De Jong's tackle than those committed by Tiote (on Milner and De Jong) and Coloccini (on Tevez).

If it wasn't such a bad injury, no-one would have discussed the foul. Best of luck to Ben Arfa but just because there is a victim, it doesn't necessarily mean that there is a villain.

Van Bommel is the managers son-in-law or something like that so is unlikely to be dropped but I agree that VB is a snide bastard which De Jong isn't. Trouble for De Jong is that its been raised before that he gets too many cards playing for Holland because he goes in hard every time and the latest incident is just added to the list. Plus if he was picked you just know that the Ref will be watching and waiting for the first slip so De Jong is just a card waiting to happen.

Its a shame because De Jong has gone up a level or two this year but I reckon he will have to rethink some of his tackling without compromising his effectiveness otherwise Ref's will be all over him.

yet again with blinkers on everyone but City fans are wrong. I made my feeling on DeJong clear at the WC. Great player and a tough tackler when he doesn't bend the rules. I gave him the benefit yesterday, watching the replays i'm not so sure. Right to be dropped, he has to learn you can't just go around breaking people up, this is football not UFC.

The question is how ridiculous is it really...? Even though the tackle yesterday was fair (especially with city-glasses on...), the majority is slaughtering deJong today. He has built up a repurtation as a hard (and brutal?) player, and the clumpsy attack at Alonso in the WC-final was seen by everyone, since it was a wc-final... DeJong will probably be in focus by the refs for a period, and from that perspective I can understand the dutch coach. Nigel is getting a repurtation now that is not only for good, neighter for him as a player of for his team.

it's fucking ridiculous as the manager has continued to pick Van Bommel who assaulted his way through the whole World Cup.....Nigel did one rather ludicrous kung fu kick granted but MVB was a fucking animal in every game I saw the Netherlands play.

If I were Nigel I'd tell Holland where to go after that. By all means take him aside for a talking to when he joins up with the squad and tell him you're not impressed and so he's not going to play. But to be hung out to dry like that by your national coach when the incident wasn't even playing for the international team. An absolute disgrace.

Nigel has been to the WC Final with Holland now, they'll not match that again in his career so he might as well tell them where to go and concentrate on his club career where he is appreciated

I thought he was fantastic again yesterday.
Gets a kick and gives a kick without whinging or chucking himself to the deck or rolling about trying to get the oppo booked. He is rapidly becoming my favourite player. And hugely important to us. It's a worry how he is being slaughtered this morning.
