Wooney signs new contract

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Guys, as much as I don't want that cunt anywhere near this club, the whole things tinks of a stitch up.

Rooney would not have gone to the trouble of letting this story out just to get a better contract. The comments were just too damning about United's future for him to just happily sign away the rest of his career.

This is a total and utter stitch up, in the same way that the clubs lied to the fans about Ronaldo, and "not selling that lot a virus". Rooney will be sold in the summer, and in return he will appease the fans by signing a contract that appears to commit his long term future to the club to quieten down the natives.

In fact, I would be surprised if he even has signed a contract......it seems rather hastily put together given the legal wrangling over image rights etc, and given that there was no previous contract ready and on the table

I think you're right, he needs to be in contract for the red filth to get the money they need to pay the annual interest bill. i think he'll be gone by summer at the latest.
Shame though, I was really enoying the pantomime.

Andy Cole taught us a good lesson. I'll give NQDP his props for this. He was one of the few dissenting voices when he signed. He scored a few goals for us then he FUCKED us over. I learnt a valuable lesson on this. No matter how fucking good they are, no rags.

I'm still not totally sold on Tevez and probably never will be. I'm just waiting for him to fuck us over.

Rooney. Rag granny shagging overrated wanker. He'd of been bad for our club purely because he's a rag granny shagging overrated wanker.

NO RAGS.

That's the way Dazby, make sure you don't grow to be "totally sold" on our stand out best player.

I love the work he is doing for us obviously and he is one of the nicest players I've ever seen for City but personally I remain somewhat wary what will happen with him in long term.

And before anyone has another go at me, I took the trouble to be there in Upton Park for his West Ham debut after seeing his dazzling skills in and for Argentine. I've always admired his skills (big difference to Rooney by the way) but I'd prefer us not to do any business with rags. Whether it's selling our better players to them (Coton), loaning players from them (Kanchelski's), getting former rags (Cole) or buying players from them (Cooke after we'd bought him), it almost always ends up in tears somewhere along the line.

Just to be awkward, we loaned him off Rangers

vidic signed one and now this cnut has signed one. I wonder if there are minimum release fee clauses in the contracts. The club will cash in at some point. They have got to to service the debt.

I was fully expecting him to sign for us but deep down knew he would and could never be loved by our fans because of his behaviour towards us over the last few years. I was hoping he would sign for us more so just to see the scum fans faces in my local when he ran out for us in his first game. I have questioned his desire and his lack of form recently and put it down to the loss of hunger and because his life away from football is in crisis, plus he smokes and that ain't good for a supposed top athlete. All them doubts remain and he will have to sort them all out in red of the scum, thankfully.
The Glazers are suddenly going to start spending money they haven't got to strengthen the scum team are they? Yeah right, dream on. But Shrek won't care, he'll be collecting £150K a week.

Since he was only leaving for the money, I expect the press to now give him loads of grief for only staying for the money. Or has he stayed because he's suddenly realised Anderson and Macheda are world class?

that is actually an amazing point. one of the three biggest faces in global football and they've drawn this up since yesterday? surely not. it's definitely some sort of mind game, but why? the derby is too far away, and they've played liverpool. what reasons are there for this stitch up????

why on earth would he do that? If he wanted out he simply wouldnt sign.

From what I've heard he's doubled his wages, and United no longer face losing him for peanuts. To me it just looks like they've got him to sign it for now, then they can let him leave in the summer (which also removes the question of what he was going to do until january) for a big fee.

Like I said though, perhaps I'm reading too much into it.

Thats what I'm thinkin. This was what was probably discussed in that meeting between piss-head, Gill and Agent Glazer the other day(yesterday?). Persuade him to stay t'il the summer, doubling his wages. Rooney kicks up a fuss come summer starting a bidding war. £80 mill in glazers pocket, back hander to Rooney, jobs a good'n.

Dunno, maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Its a fair point, well made ;o)

Fact is though, had I told you any time during the 2008/9 season that a secret deal had been agreed for Ronaldo to stay one more year, then he would be sold to Real Madrid (who they wouldnt sell a virus to), you would have said I was barking mad.

Aside from the Ronaldo deception, anyone remember this.
Sunday....Manchester United confirm that Wayne Rooney has absolutely not asked to leave, rumours are unfounded and untrue
Tuesday...Ferguson confirms Rooney told him in August he wanted to leave

Lying to the public/fans comes naturally to Manchester United, as they are control freaks.

No he is right about the contract. Its not as if they are printing a standard contract off the internet and saying 'here you go stick your name on that'. Taggart and his motley crew were not panicking over selling Rooney they were panicking over selling Rooney at the wrong time ie not enough time on his contract to demand an exorbitant wedge. I suspect they have agreed a deal in principle with the details to be ironed out later and an eye on flogging Rooney for big bucks in the summer or the year after. I also bet that there will be stipulations about investing in the squad and player acquisitions triggering a release clause if not met.

The amusing thing is SSN banging on about Rooney staying for another 5 years and staying until 2015 as if the length of the contract for any player had any bearing in how long he stays at the club. Glazers/taggart/rooney have hatched something between them that suits all parties and takes the heat out of this situation. Remains to be seen how this all ends.

In the meantime we have had great fun. Rooney went public and said their squad is shite, we had taggart crying on telly and we beat the Poles. Cracking week.

I think the 78 Vintage of John is likely to be pretty near to the mark

As things stood they had:

Fans against Rooney
Rooney not motivated and at odds with squad/manager/fans
Rooney's value plummeting by the day
United looking publicly very weak

No fucking way have they fully agreed a new contract and done it all in 24 hours....no way in the world. Agreement to agree yes but this will be for exactly the reasons John highlights.

Preserve a robust sell-on value
Restore face for United vs fans and public
Financially remotivate Rooney
Get rest of teammates back on side with his "committment to 2015"
..and those terrifying MIB away from Withinlee Road

Even if he does stay til 2015 it has been a highly entertaining week
