Either way, it shows that there is an agenda, even if it was just the ref over-riding the rest - for what reason?

I'm agreeing with you mate, in my own way. I like the way the 'Behind the Goal's Ref's'' have their likkle wand's that they would usually wave about, but not once did they raise that wand (Harry Potter like). Yes, we know it's got button's to electecute the ref whence pressed, but they can't even be arsed doing that whether right or wrong, they are just at the mercy of the ref, just like the linesman.
I personally have no doubts that all ref's work for the firm and are given their order's pre-match, and the best way to control the game is to have but one person calling the shot's, who in turn tell the other's what they want. Ie. You take your cue from me, that is all!

It's a fix, I tell ya!

I get what you are saying mate but one day a CL Final will be decided by one of them guys not raising his finger so to speak and all hell will break loose. Then they will bring technology in after the horse has bolted.

Now that I have seen them in a few matches, I wonder what good are they for ? Not once have I seen the wand raised. Not once have I noticed the Ref delaying a decision to consult with them. So really I don't see the point.
Its inconceivable that the ref behind the goal couldn't have seen at least 1 of the 3 handballs against Juve ! Do they wait for the ref to ask them or can they actually make a decision like the linesmen do.

They only have the power to officiate on goal-line matters- not whether there can be a pen awarded or not.
Also, I assume the fifth officials actually earn bugger all- you only get a few hundred quid to ref an international game, so to stand on the goal-line for the UEFA Cup, which has nowhere near the amount of cash involved as the Champs' League, should net you a couple of hundred, plus expenses, at a guess.

Have to admit I wasn't aware of that. It makes them even more pointless.
