I'm not clear how easy it would be to add substantial capacity to the existing ground ( I presume payments to the Council would go up in that case) and if not whether the club would consider building a brand new purpose built stadium instead.

Pretty sure the new deal with the council was flat rate mate (last year). HIgher, but not attendance-based, with future expansion is mind. 85,000 is the latest buzz. Please refer to the other site that cannot be named - thread of about 1000 pages now. (City millionaires plan to turn Eastlands into Las Vegas)

The problem we have is that we have lost generations of fans to the Rags because of their recent success. It's only those loyal City fans who have advocated their loyalties to their son's and daugther's that have kept the faith going, and now their faith will be rewarded.
We can sustain bigger crowds but it'll be down to what we do on the pitch, and over successive years. The Rags are now struggling to fill thier stadium for games, it'll take us a very long time to ensure an average crowd as theirs, with an emphasis on the further development on the site to push ahead of time. Those who wish to visit the Swamp will most definately want to spend a little time at ours as well.

Don't forget that before the premier league and Euro 96, the rags were struggling to fill 45000 seats. They hit form just as football took off. It would be very difficult to catch them, but don't underestimate the power of continual success.

Tucked away right at the bottom was a project named simply 'Concept Football Stadium.' Now, see what you think below, but the interior of the stadium looks very much like a re-jigged COMS, and the exterior artists impression has lots of people in blue:
Hmmm...

The sky is the wrong colur, don't get blue skies in Manchester but does look a nice stadium. I very much doubt you will see much grey once we are developed
