He has to be the most obscure Premier League manager since Les Reed.

What was the name of Scottish guy who was the manager of Sunderland inbetween Keane and Bruce?

Ricky Sbragia, who also has his own lifetime pass to the David Merrington legends' lounge.

Mcf.net favourite 'Who the fuck is' Steve Kean gets the kiss of death. Fat Sam got the same "assurances" about a week before getting chopped.

From the beeb:

Venky's deny Steve Kean Blackburn job under threat

Blackburn owners Venky's have denied manager Steve Kean's job is at risk after his side picked up one point from their last five Premier League games.

Rovers are two points above the relegation zone and reports suggested Kean, who replaced Sam Allardyce in December, was under pressure.

Venky's chairperson Anuradha Desai said there was no truth in the reports.

"He will continue in his present position. There is no question of the manager being changed," she added.

Kean, 43, was given a two-and-a-half-year contract in January but Blackburn's 3-2 defeat at Fulham on Saturday prompted a number of reports suggesting the Scot had been summoned to a meeting with Desai in London.

However, Desai dismissed the claim and stated: "I do not know the source of these rumours."

After an encouraging start under Kean, including victory over Liverpool, results have tailed off, with a 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion on 23 January the last time the club picked up three points.

In their last five games Rovers have only taken one point, in a 0-0 draw with Newcastle, during which time they have conceded in 12 goals - while scoring six.

The Rao family completed their £43m takeover of Rovers through their company, Venky's London Limited, on 19 October.

Kean had been first-team coach under Allardyce until the former Newcastle and Bolton boss was surprisingly relived of his duties with Blackburn 13th in the Premier League, five points above the relegation zone.

these owners are gonna over take gold and sullivan as the most annoying in the league. i don't think it's good for a club when you start seeing loads of statements from the owners. it says to me they enjoy the limelight a little too much. there were better managers than steve kean available at the time, and probably are now. my guess is they'll survive, he'll get sacked and they'll bring in avram 'cup run' grant when the hammers go down.

Today certainly won't be helping either him or the odds if you didn't get on this already (cue second half comeback)

He's starting to grow on me is old 'Who?'

I loved his hilarious 'we're definitely finishing top 10' interview last week and he's just cheered me up no end with his comments after today's game. The guy is the epitome of blind optimism.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14864139.stm

The gist: I won't think accept there's any opposition to my management until every Blackburn fan on Earth puts it in writing that they want me to fuck off.

I do actually genuinely like the guy.

I think relegation is a tactic for some owners, I suspected it when that joke speculator took over Portsmouth for nothing when they were in the Prem, I suspected it with the two flower pot men at West Ham too. I haven't quite worked out what the benefit is though, maybe something to do with the parachute payments (although they stop if the team is promoted again)

Promotion comes with an extra payment to in order to bridge the gap.

Yo-yo'ing can seem a decent idea, I know Norwich were planning on spending the money from a bounce a few years ago even before the season started.

They might win a few games in the c'ship. Few more bums on seats? Something to celebrate for the owners?

I don't really mind Blackburn but I think its about time they fucked off for a bit.

HILARIOUS!

Steve Kean is gonna become a real cult hero. His weekly post-match denial is getting funnier each time.

Surely improved contracts are usually offered when a player or manager is being looked at by other clubs. Who the fuck is headhunting Steve Kean?

Silly question. Has to be Newcastle.

With Portsmouth, it's quite simple: asset-stripping.

Basically, the land on which Fratton Park lies is far, far more valuable than Portsmouth Football Club. However, to use the land for other purposes, one of two things must happen:
i) Portsmouth FC must build a suitable replacement
ii) Portsmouth FC must cease to exist
It doesn't take a genius to work out which option Al-Fahim was trying to take, and when he sold the club, he retained all rights to its real estate, according to this: http://www.asharq-e.com/news.asp?section=3&id=18494

And THAT is why I always thought the whole lease thing with CoMS was good thing.

Basically all my life until Sheihk's takeover our ownership was more or less in unstable condition. May it be "Swales Out", buying us for lifetime of bog rolls, Wardle's reluctance to invest (money he didn't even have) on club etc. We were always one way or another on edge and skint. Some form of asset stripping was genuine possibility until we moved to CoMS.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

I was disappointed to see Sam relegated as well. Considering that the team was 8th in the league at the time they got relegated, one can only wonder why they replaced him with Steve Keen.
I hoped they got relegated last season, I am still hoping for that.

Also, I hope that Sam can get WHU promoted. I like Sam as a manager and he deserves to be in the PL.
