Wont hold my breath but im hoping that this the wake up call the lad needs. He must know now he is well and truely in the last chance saloon with Bobby giving him a public dressing down, he must know that he cant make any more fuck ups of this nature. Im sure the lads in the dressing room have made their feelings very to clear to him.

He needs to get his head down, work, play football, learn to put a bib on and keep a very low profille then we may actually see the player we all know he can be.

I think, hand on heart, we all knew that Mario would get sent off in a game that mattered sooner or later. He's not mature enough yet and he reminds me of a more out of control version of a young Anelka.

By the time the lad is 28 and settled down he will be a star for which ever team he is player for. But for the next 5 years or so whilst he matures he's just going to piss around, move from club to club and be in the limelight for the wrong reasons.

I was only saying the same thing the other day. He has very similar qualities, perhaps lacking in pace in comparrison... but his attitude is even worse than Anelka's at his age. Only in the last few years has Anelka become a better team player. Before that, he scored goals and plenty of them... but that was all that was expected from him.

I think Balotelli should be played as a striker or nothing until he learns discipline. This way he can drift in and out of games but not get as involved with winning a ball on the wing until he's more mature.

He should be coming off the bench to win us games as an out and out striker if need be for now IMO.

I don't know what it is about Super Mario but I still like him a lot.

I'm still annoyed that he was such a daft cunt the other night. I have no idea whether he will learn/turn a corner/come good but I think he is just entertaining and very talented and a bit/lot fucking mental

That would be planet earth. You make mistakes, you ask for forgiveness and try to learn from your mistakes. I just hope he's serious and actually does something to show it too (other than words).

And now, all of a sudden, after 24 hrs of slaughtering on this board, everything is forgotten since he said "pls forgive me, I'm just an unlucky man" to the M(U)EN reporter...? Pls give me a break... He's got his chances.

Nobody has forgotten. Nor necessarily forgiven. I only pointed out it is what you would expect one to do after a mistake! the future actions will determine for me when I will forgive him

I don't know what it is either Ant but I'm still firmly with your view. I cling to the hope that he's reached his tipping point, probably wrongly, but I do. Plus that bib video is still cracking me up

I agree, he is a mentalist but for some reason I still love him. If he comes good he could be an all time cult hero due to his antics alone.

Dont get me wrong i love a comedy player, but comedy players should be no marks who cost fuck all and are there to make us all laugh not players who cost a fucking fortune and have all the talent in the world.
That is what fucks people off,Id give my left bollock to have been a pro footballer and this dude is throwing it away pal making us look like mugs along the way.
May i remind you Peter Kay makes people laugh thats his job he does it very well,Mario's job is to be a professional and score goals and contribute to the team he cant do his job being a fucking dick and getting sent off all the time.

I think with young Balotelli, we should look at the difference between rational and emotional.

When in rational mode, he is undoubtedly a quality footballer and probably quite a nice young lad. Now the red mist has vapourised, i am not suprised that he is full of remorse. Now that his heart rate has settled and he can look at his behaviour in the cold light of day, he understands he has behaved like a twat and possibly it was his actions that cost us the game and our place in the Europa League next round.

The problem he has is his lack of ability to stop the red mist descending, his lack of ability to keep his head when the pressure is on. Sadly for him and possibly his future career, the game at the top is about pressure, stress, tension and how well you can handle it.

There is much talk about him learning lessons but learning is all about rationality. he loses it emotionally and learning plays no part of that. his reactions are not rational they are emotional and thought has no control over them. I have deep worries that it is something in his personality that is hard wired and deep seated.

The fact that even after the game, even after being told by the club and his own team mates, despite his being remorseful and regretful in the dressinfg room and despite having the understanding about the implications of his actions, HE STILL COULDN'T STOP HIMSELF REACTING EMOTIONALLY TO A FEW FANS. HE HAS NO CONTROL OF THAT SIDE OF HIS CHARACTER.

That may not strictly be true Beeks mate. Though you may well be right, a 0-2 deficit is beatable and has been beaten many times.

What was important on the night was that we gave ourselves the best chance possible of overcoming that deficit. There may have been other factors on the night and we may not have succeeeded but to give ourselves the best chance possible, we needed a full team, with each player reaching his potential and pulling his weight.

What Balotelli did was in a place where City were not under significant pressure. It was unproffessional and stupid and it cannot be excused by postulising that the game may have already have been lost.

John I agree with the above post of yours entirely. I also don't disagree with Carl's.

The thing I think we need to understand is what John says. He clearly has no control over his emotional management/impulse control and it is 100% part of his character. This will always blight his career until something is done to help deal with it.

CARL: what gets me about your reaction towards him is that (I'm sure I can't be alone) I can so see a parallel between Mario's on field reactions and your online reactions (and this tallies with tales you have told about how difficult you can be to deal with after, say, a City loss). I don't know what you are like in person these days and you may have mellowed but I wouldn't be surprised at all if you told me that you, especially when younger, had a very short fuse.

I say this as I know that I absolutely do suffer from exactly the same types of issue with "red mist" as Mario. I really do wish that I could turn the other cheek and walk away like most people can but, quite simply, I cannot. Once I have tipped over the edge I, quite frankly, am impossible to control/reason with and am a fucking nightmare. Just like Mario, afterwards I am remorseful and feel usually hugely guilty but that does not change the fact that I quite frequently will lose it.

I have mellowed as I have got older and have also "done some work" on the issue to try and understand and control it myself but I can tell you that even after that I have a massively shorter fuse than pretty much anyone I know.

Expecting Mario to "sort it out" himself is just pie in the sky. It simply is not going to happen. Yes he does have "issues" but unless he gets some assistance in dealing with those issues (which are entirely in his head) then nothing will change.

Mario does not have "anger management issues" a la Joey Barton. He is not inherently a scumbag who likes to hurt people as I believe Barton to be. He just cannot control the way he reacts to perceived injustice (be it poor refereeing, fouls going unpunished, racist abuse from fans or his own fans on his back) and that won't change unless he is assisted in dealing with his emotional reaction.

What I do hope, as a consequence of all of this, is that the club has the necessary leverage to make him start to work with people to help him dial his reactions down. The reactions will never go away but he is capable of getting to a point where they are more capable of being regulated.

I'm sure I cannot be alone on here in being capable of relating to Balotelli in this regard. I'm not expecting people to forgive him when he does stuff like that, I'm not expecting anyone to forget it. But I'm sure that there will be other posters who can see some of their own emotional personality in his.

....and I still like him

That was a top post Ant, all the more special because you were willing to lay bare your own personal frailties as an example. Thanks for that insight.

We all have the potential (even patient me) to kick off in our heads when we reach a certain point. We have all lost it from time to time and been unable to control our irrational reactions, sometimes to quite silly situations. In that respect, there is no difference between most of us and Balotelli, except the length of the fuse.
Most of us are lucky, in the respect that when we kick off it is often in quite private circumstances and rarely in front of over 40,000 hardcore, rabidly emotional fans, national TV and the World's press. Nor do we have our behaviour UTubed or openly discussed on forums and the press.

Having said all that, we can't forget that City is a competetive football club and not a nursing home.
