Manchester City have pulled out of the bidding for the Chile international Alexis Sánchez, with the player apparently determined to secure a move to Barcelona instead.

The City manager, Roberto Mancini, told Sky Italia: "I have spoken to Sánchez. He said he was open to the idea of coming to City but then we have pulled out. After our last offer, we are out of the race to acquire the Chilean player."

Udinese confirmed that the 22-year-old would prefer a move to Spain rather than England.

"Have City pulled out of the race?," Gino Pozzo, son of the Udinese owner Giampaolo Pozzo, said to Corriere dello Sport. "You should ask them. We have not entered negotiations with City.

"The will of the player is to go to Barcelona. The negotiations with the Catalan club are going forward. With calmness, we will find a solution. We will speak to Barça and we will see."

Pozzo has also not ruled out the possibility that Sánchez, who is valued at £45m, could remain at Udinese for a further season.

"He said it yesterday and we have reiterated it in the past. It is an option."

Meanwhile, Mancini is confident that Carlos Tevez will remain at the club next season despite the Argentina forward recently expressing his desire to leave the club.

"Tevez is a good player. I believe he will remain with us."

The 27-year-old is under contract with City until June 2014 and is a reported target for Internazionale.

There's the key imo: "Perhaps I'll stay at Udinese for another year" In other words "Barca have been on at me to tell City I won't go there, well now I have done, so you either sell me to Barca or forget it"

Would be lunacy from Udinese's point of view if they don't sell him this summer. 30+ million on top of Champions League money would be monumental for a club that size.

I'm glad we have pulled out of buying this Sanchez guy.
He's had one good season, only 12 goals btw and a good world cup.
That is it, one season wonder and they wanted over 40 million for him.
Fuckoff.

I wish that was it.

But there is no way Barca will be signing Sanchez AND Fabregas, they have permission to bid/talk to Fabregas, and have spent the last 5 years wanking over him, they will sign Fab over Sanchez anyday.

The OnLY was they could get both is if they were to sell someone. Someone good enough to command a handsome fee. Someone who 1 of the 2 players coming in would be nearly as good as or potentially better than.......

Pretty interesting.

I think we're just putting it back to Udinese. It's not Marwood nor Cook saying we're not buying him but the guy who doesn't get involved.

Its still brewing.

I hope so.
After the big money which has been spent on some of the dross we've had/got it would be fucking ridiculous to miss out on the real deal for the sake of a couple of million quid.

60 minutes into watching Chile-Mexico and not one bit impressed with him.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Must say, I've never seen anything like a £30 mil player in him whenever I've seen him. You would assume all these various scouts know what they're looking at though.

That's what I've been wondering. Never thought he was out of this world type of talent the times I've seen him in Italy. But Barcelona, Real, us, Chelsea and rags supposedly in tug of war over his signature, you'd think there must be something special there. All I see is neat, relatively pacy player with alright touch. But for the price on his head you'd expect to see someone like Tranaldo or Messi or Tevez.

i suppose it's a mixture of crazy market, and people who know exactly what they're looking for in a player BEFORE he costs £60m+ i mean he is still quite young isn't he? i know messi is but he's a freak of nature, ronaldo looked far from world class when united first signed him...

Hold on. Did you just go and edit the whole game and pick every touch Sanchez made on the ball? Wow. That is committed. Are you his agent?

And no, after watching half of that to refresh my memory, I'm still not that impressed. For those who didn't see the game, it was their gameplan that everything goes through Sanchez, and so considering I didn't see him do anything that would make me go "wow, this guy is good" I wasn't impressed. And by impressed I mean 40 million pounds impressed.

Like I said, if you read this topic, I think he is neat player with nice touch and bit of pace as well. I never said he is shite. But for the money talked about you want world ELITE player. And for me, at this stage, he doesn't look like one. But like me and Ted both agreed, there must be something there that we miss because all these big teams are after him.

I'm still shocked that you'd go through trouble of editing the whole game for a youtube clip of Alexis Sanchez.

Fuck no, I wont bother making a video.
I watched the game and wanted to give another opinion, then I searched and found the video. If the video would devalue my opinion, then please go on and delete it.

International football isn't the place to judge I suppose as the players don't always have the same understanding but I've felt the same about Sanchez as NQDP when I've seen him play in Italy. In one recent game I'd go as far as to say I thought he looked like someone we should avoid at all costs. Surely all these top clubs can't be wrong though?
