Manchester City have pulled out of the bidding for the Chile international Alexis Sánchez, with the player apparently determined to secure a move to Barcelona instead.

The City manager, Roberto Mancini, told Sky Italia: "I have spoken to Sánchez. He said he was open to the idea of coming to City but then we have pulled out. After our last offer, we are out of the race to acquire the Chilean player."

Udinese confirmed that the 22-year-old would prefer a move to Spain rather than England.

"Have City pulled out of the race?," Gino Pozzo, son of the Udinese owner Giampaolo Pozzo, said to Corriere dello Sport. "You should ask them. We have not entered negotiations with City.

"The will of the player is to go to Barcelona. The negotiations with the Catalan club are going forward. With calmness, we will find a solution. We will speak to Barça and we will see."

Pozzo has also not ruled out the possibility that Sánchez, who is valued at £45m, could remain at Udinese for a further season.

"He said it yesterday and we have reiterated it in the past. It is an option."

Meanwhile, Mancini is confident that Carlos Tevez will remain at the club next season despite the Argentina forward recently expressing his desire to leave the club.

"Tevez is a good player. I believe he will remain with us."

The 27-year-old is under contract with City until June 2014 and is a reported target for Internazionale.

But there is no way Barca will be signing Sanchez AND Fabregas, they have permission to bid/talk to Fabregas, and have spent the last 5 years wanking over him, they will sign Fab over Sanchez anyday.

For those who didn't see the game, it was their gameplan that everything goes through Sanchez, and so considering I didn't see him do anything that would make me go "wow, this guy is good" I wasn't impressed. International football isn't the place to judge I suppose as the players don't always have the same understanding but I've felt the same about Sanchez as NQDP when I've seen him play in Italy. In one recent game I'd go as far as to say I thought he looked like someone we should avoid at all costs. Surely all these top clubs can't be wrong though?
