I can't tell if you're on a wind-up or not.

But assuming you're not - we need to increase our revenue so the club can pay its way from its own sources, not the Sheikh's back pocket. I know this deal has only come about because Etihad is Abu Dhabi-owned, but this is the correct way to do it from an accounting/finance perspective and fits within the new FFP rules.

As you think it's pathetic though, what would you suggest we do instead to be able to afford world class players, high salaries and a title-challenging team?

I'm hoping you're trying to wind people up, as otherwise your comment isn't very well thought through.

If it means that a tour will bring the squad to Melbourne's Etihad Stadium one day, I'm all for it.

From today's Independent:

Andrea Traverso – the man tasked by president Michel Platini with introducing the system – said last year: "Should the clubs put in place specific structures that allow them, in ways we didn't think about, to easily go around some of the principles, we could amend these rules to catch up with these situations. You can call them loopholes but you can call them as well an evolution of the market which could not be taken into consideration at the time the rules were drafted."

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/foot ... 08709.html

What he is saying is that UEFA are now determined to stop sponsorships deals that don't suit them. Therefore, they will continue to make the rules up as they go along to exclude clubs from the Champions League, the competition set up in the 'nineties to avert a threatened European Super League of Man U, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, et al.

Corrupt to the core.

1. I'd be fairly certain that's an old quote which hasn't just been written because of our apparent new naming rights deal.
2. Platini himself has already said that the chances of clubs being excluded from the Champions League are almost non-existant. Clubs just need to demonstrate that they are moving towards self-sufficiency and not relying on a rich benefactor. We are doing that, especially as the Sheikh will not want to keep pumping his own money in forever.

The club are doing the right things. We don't have anything to worry about. These are more guidelines than rules, Platini himself has said that.

Yes, it's a quote from last year, apparently, but this "in ways we didn't think about" line and his talk of closing loopholes smacks of arrogance. It is a sign of their desperation, too, when they talk of clubs breaking the "spirit of the rules" - a catch all phrase that can lend fluidity to a hastily drawn up and flawed rule book. Still, if they are unable to act retrospectively, and are unable to show City and others exactly what rules they are violating, then they will have failed. This does, of course, point towards City being just about the last club who will be able to become major contenders in club football from a moderate base.

Imo what City are doing at the moment is trying to look as if we're doing our best to comply with their bent rules; smiling & nodding & generally being as cooperative as possible. We will show that we are increasing our income & not going on mammoth spending sprees every season (which we wouldn't be doing anyway) & then we will bring in more & more 'sponsorship' deals etc & carry on smiling & then start spending exactly what we need to spend & everything will be fine provideed they don't actually do anything to us.

If they do, or they try to stop our income there will be blood.

disappointed with the name - I was hoping for the 'Etihad die taggart die stadium' just so I could hear Clive Tyldsley say it every time we're on ITV

Now all I need to know is how to pronounce it properly. Is it Ee-tihad or E-tii-had or E-ti-jad?

Point is though that we we've been arguing for nearly decade now what to call the ground and every fucker uses different name. It's sorted now for time being so it's actually kind of relieving.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Etihad may or may not be Arabic for United, but what I do know is that "Old Trafford" is English for "past its prime" and "not Manchester"
