I don't think that's entirely fair. Young German internationals have a strong pull towards Germany, especially when they're trying to build their international careers. German clubs like having German players, just like the way there's a premium on English players in England. We're one of the few clubs with a tradition of signing them.
Bayern really wanted Boateng, they were going all out for him. It's hard to compete when he hadn't broken into the starting team here and had had a mixed experience. He'll be an integral part of the biggest club in Germany as opposed to being the raw young 4th choice centre half with us. It's a great move for him, and it's great for Bayern to be luring a big name home, it's okay for us. Just like selling Corluka, okay price, not a loss or anything but the buying club were happier than we were.
