I know. We would have won that game if Bobby had brought him on at half time.
brilliant minds...i said the same thing at HT. Barry was warming up when they scored their 2 in quick succession, wasn't he? i can't recall...but he literally came on within minutes of the 2nd goal. Milner and Mancini were doing a fair bit of jawboxing near the technical area yesterday. Saw it twice, and Milner was really pleading his case in quite an animated fashion. Mancini seemed unimpressed. I wished he had swapped Milner for Barry to start the second half and kept Balo on for a bit longer. Balo did seem like he got into a funk when Jayko scored. Balo likes to throw a little hissy fit when other players score sometimes. I've noticed it a bunch...every goal that isn't his goal seems to create some jealousy as bizarre as that sounds. Still if i were a fat English bastard i'd have his name on the back of my shirt.
cheers
Any side with players of our supposed quality, should be able to hold on to the ball better than that when given a two goal lead. If we had 6 forwards on we still shouldn't lose, we should be passing them to death. I don't think Bob is at fault for not getting Barry on quicker personally.
We need to learn how to win games without having a team full of defenders.
Do you consider Barry a defender? not a rhetorical question. I get your point about him, but it clearly wasn't happening for us yesterday , so why be so stubborn and stick with it? We were getting overrun, and our passing and touch looked desperate...almost from the get go. The problem was that it wasn't just one or two players, it was an epidemic. It was sloppy and heartless. i was really shocked to be honest. The ending was just so unbelievable....it was really indicative of just how shit we were on the day.
Barry is just a calming, positional midfield force...i don't find him horribly defensive tho you'd never classify him as attacking. What did you guys call someone like Barry in the 70s? A "midfielder" perhaps? the infatuation with labeling someone either attacking or defensive in midfield does a player like Barry an injustice really, doesn't it?
and yes Barry can lay some stinkers...he's shown that to us a few times, but all in all...way more good than harm, and yesterday was crying out for him imho. After he came on we actually got some possession and made some passes, and even saw a couple of wasteful chances from TYY and Silva in the box...to me that was a sure sign of what we might have been doing instead of standing around looked scared while they scored not once, but twice.
Up 2-0 at HT, Mancini should have dragged Milner off for Barry and even considered putting Aguero in for Balo. Whole new wrinkle would have been added. Hindsight is asshole vision tho, as they say.
