Daily Mail

I'm not usually one to buy into the whole 'media has an agenda against us etc'. But the headline for their coverage of our game is ' Davies nods home to give Bolton hope against rich kids'

What sort of fcking journalism is that? Absolute disgrace

Well the online match report is headed:

Bolton 2 Manchester City 3: Dzeko outshines Aguero as Mancini's men go top

and the link to the article from the sports home page is:

well, the guardian article is hilarious, milner scored the second and klasnic took "an easy chance" (i thought it was a quality finish). and other shite:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011 ... ier-league

the daily mail article also complains about city's mostly foreign team causing unemployment in cheshire, decreasing house prices in manchester and causing cancer in cocker spaniels. and spreading aids. bad aids.

Mostly foreign team! My God man, don't they know there were 6 England'ers out there???

Anyway, I liked these 2 paragraphs and sort of sums a few things up:

Over the course of the subsequent decades they ceased even to be regarded as contenders. Although the squad itself has been upgraded so extravagantly, this is still a step into the unknown for many. City have to school themselves in living with the realisation that any opponents will raise their game against them and show a most unusual appetite. Dealing with that environment is a way of life for many clubs but City are coming into that category belatedly.

The encouragement for him (Mancini) lies in the fact that the character and style of play being instilled look natural to his line-up. It was essential to the aspiration that such a process should take place but the speed at which City are turning into sprightly crowd-pleasers is an agreeable surprise.

Are things in the media changing for the better?

Always needed a reason not to read The Daily Mail. A non existent headline seems like reason enough, thanks.

Ive explained it badly. It was part of their live updates of the game and definitely existed.

I'm fighting a loosing battle.

Perhaps I should believe these headlines that we've not been linked to exist? Or that I read all those made up stories praising other teams?

But for the meantime I'll just continue enjoying decent reports/ views/ posdcasts and let everyone else worry about the invisible stories against us from the gutter press. : )

That's fair enough mate but minute by minute report posts are a whole lot different from a "Headline". And the only real offence is calling us 'rich kids' - we're pretty rich so they're calling us 'kids'. Again if that offends then perhaps you should tell them.

I'm dangerously wondering into territory where I'm defending the Daily Mail here, so I'm declaring myself out.

Mmmmm, if you've not seen any negative press about us then I'm wondering what sort of things you read/watch/listen to?

I'm forever the optimist and try to see the good in everything, but even I see what certain chains have some kind of agenda.

I'll put it down to you wanting to go against the grain on this one.

Why? Why not put it down to someone having a different opinion than your own?

Let's get this straight - I absolutely believe journos are out to get us. But I believe their only interest is selling papers. If a negative story about a club is gonna sell then it will be printed. The stature of that club will obviously add sales to the story - an article about Fulham isn't going to attract the same attention as the multi billion, high wage paying, mercenaries et...

The issue I have is 1) fans seem to think we're picked on for something other than flogging wares and 2) how they're surprised every single week when this happens. People then make mountains out of molehills - are you honestly telling me that a small comment like the one by the OP is worthy of discussion?

There are plenty of good football outlets about. If you look towards The Sun and The Stars you're not going to find them.

Good point and well made, similar to my view in fact. But you didn't say that mate, you said:

LookMumImOnMCF.net wrote: .......and let everyone else worry about the invisible stories against us from the gutter press. : )

....which is a whole different thing, is it not?

Nice to see you've cleared it up though mate. These stories are there and the the journo's are out to get us, whether that be to sell papers or it is because of a certain agenda.

It's all relative ;)

I don't read The Sun, The Mail etc. Tbh my main source of info on them comes from this very board.

I like football discussion, but The Guardian's Football Weekly & The Football Ramble podcasts do me for the 2 hours or so I need a week. I watch the games and like to form my own opinion on City. Some chump writes "Davies nods home to give Bolton hope against rich kids" then I simply think to myself that's not a headline (turns out in this case it wasn't) and move on.

When you say "It's all relative" you're right - but people need to understand we are the big time now - criticism will always follow us.

in that case how the fuck did you come up with the garbage you came up with months ago telling us we are nothng but paranoid fans.....that the press are not out to get us....ect ect ect. if your main source of info is on this fucking forum ??You make yourself sound a right Tit admitting that you dont read anything other than The Guardian's Football Weekly & The Football Ramble podcasts...well fuck me...if there is no anti city agenda in those then that seals the argument does it !

Ive asked you multple times to admit you were wrong and you refused to answer..and now (well considering you would look an even bigger tit with all the evidience in tabloids and punditry of an anti city agenda) you finally admit that Journos are out to get us and the tabloids are/have been anti City.

Ill leave it at this now as you now have admitted what we all fucking knew...putting a spin on it is par the course for you....but its an admission nonetheless.
THEY SAY SWEARING IS DUE TO A LIMITED VOCABULARY. I KNOW THOUSANDS OF WORDS, BUT I STILL PREFER "FUCK OFF" TO "GO AWAY"

Top post. Add me to this (small) group.

In fact, if anything, I'm delighted that shitty tabloids write shitty stories about us. Means we sell papers which in turn means that as far as exposure and global appeal goes we are starting to be force to be reckon with.

Mail, Mirror, Sun and other papers like that try to sell papers. They don't have any opinions but they only write what they think will make more people buy papers. Fact is that there are more non-City fans than City fans in this world. The portion of those non-City fans who actually read tabloids will enjoy reading crap like that.

Likewise, when we were shit and "everyone's second club" they either never wrote about us at all or wrote shit in patrionaising fashion. The latter got much more under my skin than current crap.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?
