A bit of encouragement & he would have been a highly saleable asset. Instead, we managed to play Jo & sell him instead. Rubbish by Bob, Marwood & anyone else concerned.

If we weren't rich & had been arrogantly complacent about him & several other players, he'd be going for big money.

He was loaned to Real Madrid for him to showcase his ability and get big clubs interested. He was shite there and we are stuck with player who is on horrible wages we need to get rid.

I watch a lot of Spanish football and he definitely wasn't shite at Real Madrid. His value has plummeted partly due to his not reputation for being a whiney, disruptive cunt (which isn't entirely untrue) and through us making his look useless by not involving him. A bit of both.

I saw him fair few times and thought he was pretty poor mostly.

The big problem with Adebayor is that he is ultimate hot and cold player. When he is hot, he is almost unplayable. When he is cold, it's like playing with 10 men. Teams aiming for titles can't afford to have players like that. It's no coincedence that Arsenal won fuck all during his stay there.

I recon Arsenal were & would be again a much better team with Adebayor up front.

So do I. During his time there he was far from the weakest link. They've only had striker problems since he left. From 2006-2009 their main problems were centre-half, centre mid and goalkeeper. Now they're pretty shit all over the park. I do rate Sczezny and Vermaelen though.

I cant see why we would just let him leave for free. Were not THAT desperate to get rid of him surly, I mean someone will pay something for him. Also I think whatever happens.. if he goes to Spurs it should be in the contract that he cant play against us.

It's not a loan deal that is being talked about mate, it's a free transfer!

redknapp was interviewed on talkshite, he was at our match today,
he was asking cook about the deal and cook told him there 1or2 snags
holding it up, they mentioned about getting adebeyore for free
he just started laughing, paper bollocks.

that's right...i feel a loan to Spurs is actually beneficial if they'll pay a nice chunk say 60% of his wages. he's doing fuckall here, might as well use him as a weapon on another team to hopefully take some points from our enemies.

am i the only one who sees it this way?

cheers

that's exactly what we should do if we cant flog him - liverpool, tottenham, arsenal (haha) - all of them can have him on loan.

If we were giving him away for free then I'd be phoning Madrid, I think we were really lucky that he did relatively well in his loan spell there, I just can't see him having the motivation to keep up good performances for a full year on loan and he then becomes even more difficult to move on.

Adebayor and Bellamy were deals done because city at the time had money, but no attraction for top players. They came because we offered huge salaries, we knew about their attitude issues.

Apart from keeping them in a holding pen away from the rest of the team and telling them you will rot there until you either drop your salary demands or your contract expires, were pretty fucled.

They just breed disquiet if they stay, best to get them out on whatever deal we can. On a free is better than a loan IMHO we don't pay anymore wages and we don't have the same problem again next season

Calling our manager and management team lazy and foolish is a bit naive.

Same here.

Out of interest, am I right in thinking that if we did loan him, the wages we pay would not be counted for FFP purchases (as his contract was signed before rules came into place), but the proportion payed by the other team would?

Therefore, if a loan did arise, wouldn't it be in our financial interest to pay Ade's wages in full (except for a nominal amount, perhaps), and ask for a loan fee equivalent to the wages another team would pay him in return?

This is a good post. City have paid over the market value for these players in transfer fees and salaries. The net result is that these players are not assets on the balance sheets, it will cost us more to pay the players until the end of their contracts than their book value on the accounts. The main issue is that the buying club will have two costs, the transfer fee to us and their astronomical wages. At the time they signed for us we were probably the only club prepares to pay the wages and the transfer fee. That wont have changed so we have to accept that if we want the players to leave, they are not going to accept lower wages so we have to write off some or maybe even all the transfer fee.

It is not about being lazy, it is fairly straightforward business. In an ideal world if you buy something for £100 you don't want to give it away but if keeping it is going to cost you £10 a week and you are not going to use it, then you may as well take the hit now

I can't believe Liverpool don't seem to be in the market for another striker. If the carthorse and the mosquito get injured, what then?

How about we swap him for Modric (with a proviso that he doesn't play against us this year), then sell Modric to Chelsea for £30mill with the same conditions?

I wouldn't have thought so either, just the crap media spouting their usual bullshit. I think they'll pay now though.

After tonight's showing, I wouldn't mind donating them Adebayor as a humanitarian gesture. Get him off the books & collect some good publicity for development aid in Tottenham.
