Never do the press or Utd's publicity machine, miss an opportunity to get a player totally over-hyped. Jones of course being the new Duncan Edwards, Welbeck - who as someone pointed out on Twitter, runs like Phoebe out of Friends, Cleverley who apparently is an England lynchpin despite barely raising a murmur in 30 odd games for Wigan last year etc etc.

Mind you its always been the case, as I remember Russell Beardsmore being the next great thing in midfield, Darren Ferguson being a player to "build around" etc etc.

As for Downing? He's the most overrated player in the Premier League bar none. One footed, one paced, cant tackle, concedes possession for fun, doesnt score enough goals, weak in the air for his size, and has the stamina of a 18 year old Labrador. Apart from that, I rate him.

Let them hype Jones up. It doesn't bother me. It will be even funnier if he fails. But it would probably be in our best interest to keep quiet until Savic starts looking like a half decent player, maybe??

On Downing or Johnson. It's tricky. All I know is that if Downing keeps getting put in front of Johnson for England, it might make AJ knuckle down at club level and work on the areas of his game that are lacking, in the hope that might give him the push for England. We shall see.

Since the 1-6, there has been a pure propaganda piece on either the front of the 'Sports' section of the MUEN or on the back page every single day. This is not an exaggeration, I'm talking EVERY DAY. Usually accompanied by a picture of red shirted heroes, back slapping each other after yet another fantastic goal. Today's propaganda has Chris Waddle telling us how mind bogglingly fantastic Utd's wide players are & how they provide the best supply line in the business.

Chris Waddle is not a Utd supporter, yet at the time City are playing the best football anyone has seen for years, Waddle (who also works on TV), chooses to help Utd's propaganda machine create a piece about nothing, effectively giving them a free hand job.

This is the same kind of shit trawled out by a wide range of football media & so called experts when Jones, Wellbeck, Cleverley etc are mentioned. Half these people volunteer to help perpetuate the myth of Utd even when they're not fans as such.

We have to play like Barca to get a begrudging compliment from the same ilk.

If Phil Jones is Duncan Edwards, then Duncan Edwards wasn't very good.

Spot on Ted. Welbeck, Cleverley and Jones instant promotion to England lynchpins has come the moment they came to Utd after playing elsewhere last season without such fawning praise.

As for Waddle, he seems to have a bee in his bonnet about us and I swear he almost burst into tears when we beat QPR the other week, such was his angst. He spent 20 mins going on about why Mackie should have gone down in the box to get a pen, when Savic actually got the ball and barely touched the QPR player.

Steve Curry, who actually saw Duncan Edwards play, has just compared Jones to him.

Keys & Gray are pointing out the fact that it's ridiculous but he's sticking with it.

So it's official: Duncan Edwards was vastly overrated.

Curry always has a pro-Utd agenda so thats no surprise.

Give it another year or two and the myth will begin about Jones begin another talented "homegrown" Utd youngster, ignoring the actual truth that they paid £16m for him.

Well as someone else who seen Duncan Edwards play I can say without a doubt that Jones is nowhere near, Edwards was a very promising player who even at the young age he died was a far better player.

Nor is this anything new from the media, I have lost count of the number of "Next" whoever the f*ck the idiot writting the piece can think of, they bum them up for a while untill it becomes blatantly obvious they are average at best and then start all over again with another little ragarse.

Going back to the OP, AJ is so much better than Downing its not funny, I say that because in spite of the many chances Downing has f*cked up he still gets played for England, for me he is like Walcott and Lenon, lots of pace but little end product as he runs into nowhere like a headless chicken.

No no, you've got it wrong - Kyle Walker was man of the match and utterly brilliant dont you know. Aside from his piss poor marking which should have cost us the equaliser in the last minute, and the fact that he cant defend at all, he's the new right-back.

In truth neither Walker or Johnson can defend which is kind of a standard requirement for a full-back at international level, and neither Duncan Edwards or Smalling are right backs either - another factor is that Walker clearly fell out of the ugly tree and smacked every branch on his way to the floor. He's got a face that could stop a clock.

Micah's played well, but if Capello is still the manager in May, he has as much chance as I have of being Englands Right Back.

Jones has mastered the art of the sideways/backwards pass. I only saw the second half but I noticed he passed the ball forward ONCE in that 45 minutes. Any other forward movements with the ball were when he hoofed it as high in the air as possible.

His class stood out

Another year or two? You obviously avoid the media. After they beat us in the Community Chest everyone was going on about how their youth system had brought rewards again with the likes of Cleverley Wellbeck, Jones and Smalling. We've got more claim to Hart being a youth player than half of those, but why let facts get in the way of an article.

Some of your comments are getting gradually fuckign worse.

You can see why Micah isn't in the England setup because of one fucking match where he played mediocre ?????????...forgetting that he is, on form, the best right back in the premiership YTD !!!!

Clueless.

Downing does seem to have ability to be non existent if you can get a defender close to him but he does have much better delivery than AJ. I think that most of the chances in the Sweden match were from Downing balls.

As for Jones I doIdo think he is a promising centre half but I am completely baffled as to why he has been given games for England at full back and in midfield. Seems to me in midfield he has a bit of the David White in him. Sees a gap occasionally and runs head down into it. As a midfield destryer he is average and gets himself into bad positions plenty of times. As a creative midfield player he is a joke and looks awful at creating space and angles plus he just hasnt got the touch for that sort of midfield player. As I said as an attacking midfield player he is a bull in a china shop. Useless and yes if he is the new Duncan Edwards then Duncan wasn't that good.Sense will prevail and he will be a good centre back.

I think it's possible that Jones could become a decent midfielder or fullback but the word is 'become'. He should be proven for his club side first then WHEN HE'S GOOD ENOUGH, his reward can be a place in the England squad. Having said that, if it's ok for England to play like Stoke, like we did v Spain, then he's good enough now as running around & humping the ball in the direction he is facing is all that's needed.
