The discipline shown against Valencia was for that particular situation . When given the opportunity to agree they had found a pragmatic middle ground Boas rejected it and said they wouldn't continue with that approach. I get the feeling he was serious too and will revert to pushing on with whatever it is he is trying to do there.
It is a shame Luiz is out he really seems to fucl them up without the oppo doing anything.
Cant see the CL exit effecting the players at all.
From that I'm trying to work out if you're being over-optimistic or just dismissing Chelsea out of hand? I'm not saying I know better but from what you say AVB is very naive.
Probs just over optimistic. I'm not saying Boas is naive but he said himself they won't continue to play the way they did v Valencia. It maybe he is determined to force them to play a different way - his way, until it clicks. They have had some dismal performances but he hasn't changed his tune, apart from the Valencia game. I don't sense that they have turned the corner and it is going to be a slow process to change Chelsea's mentality and style.
As for City I really don't think going out of the CL will do anything other than fire the team to push on.. if we had been seasoned CL campaigners maybe it would be another story. I see more of the players using it to strengthen their determination to win the prem. Chelsea are a traditional threat and imo City have tended to raise their game against such oppo.
I'm expecting a tough game but unless they get the first goal they will find it tougher i rekon. If Boas sets them up as previous games they could be in some trouble, as many on here are saying.
Decent explanation but do you honestly think that A'SOTS'VB ('SOTS ' - Shitting on the Sidelines) would not play the same way and pick up 3 points? Pesonally, I think that this is exactly how he wants to play, gradually bringing in the players he wants to prove his methods work. From what I've seen, which is quite a lot, he's still been playing the the majority of the Mourinho team in a very Mourinho way in order to get himself a step on the board. However, the older players know that their days are numbered and wouldn't give the same energy that they normally would. AVB has been given licence to make sweeping changes and will do it knowing he has the backing but ensuring they don't fall to far from grace. The team he has at his disposal is awesome btw.
Boas is definately not naive, even though he's young he's like a snake who understands snakes, always looking to get the early strike in if possible. He's now on the front foot and will not want to be going backwards. A win against us will give him that ego boost that he needs, he's probably smiling and dreaming of it as he sleeps.
In the words of my Old Man, "Life will never be the same without Man City, so get it in while you can".
