Attention from Doomy doesn't count, just like anything he says ;-)
Cheers.

I guess it does and only a truly idiotic person could unflinchingly throw in a racially charged word when talking about modern racism. All you can do is laugh at the sheer stupidity. Makes you wonder though why he is on TV to give worthless opinoins

The former Tottenham player Rohan Ricketts, now with Shamrock Rovers, tweeted: "Is this Alan Hansen guy taking the f****** piss?? I'm not coloured??? He is part of the problem when using that word. We are BLACK Alan! [sic]."
He added: "Alan Hansen is more coloured than a black person. But still we would not call him or another white man coloured." According to the Sun, the former England international Stan Collymore said: "Coloured? What colour would that be? Blue? Green? Orange?"

point is that hansen was AFRAID to use the work black, fearing that if he said it he would be labelled a racist. fucking ridiculous.

It is so easy for younger people who grew up with the term to criticise and judge the older who grew up with another term. It shows a lack of knowledge and/or understanding.
Gay used to mean moderately happy.

I'm 33, and since being a kid, certain words have come and gone as the accepted way to describe the minority members of society - not necessarily in a denigrating way, but more by means of description. Perhaps someone of your vintage would have found it perfectly acceptable to use some of the words that you really would be fucking shot for today, and I know people now who have to be very careful what they say not because they mean anything derogatory by it, but because they are just used to how things were.
As time has gone on, we have had to use black, people of colour, coloured, black, coloured, and as the years go by it all becomes very confusing. I really now don't know if someone asked me to describe a particular person in the working environment how I would do it comfortably.
So it seems that now, Africa/Carribean folk are once again black......and this is confirmed by the oracle Stan Collymore who decribes himself as black aside from the fact that he clearly is nowhere near black - but I would say "of black origin"
So Alan Hansen was fucked whatever he said last night.
