They deserve their own thread! Outstanding, especially Yakubu.

Put in an incredible shift! Hopefully the Blackburn will not hate the manager so much now.

Samba. Always been a real powerhouse player. Anyone? Pretty damn good back-up for our lads.

I'd take him. Excellent cover against the rough house teams & a goal scoring threat.

Don't know if I've ever seen him lose a header to be honest

I believe he is good enough to be backup, but the question always is: will he be fine being a (regular) sub?

I imagine he will ask himself such questions, besides that, were in a position here we can buy better players. It's weird, but we get to get used to that!

I haven't seen a single CB in world football who has caught my eye though, other than Thiago silva.

People keep assuming we're in a position to buy despite a few signs from the club that we appear to be close to a wage limit.

Thiago Silva is my number one pick too, but Vertonghen (Ajax), Subotic (Borrusia D), Alex, Godin (Atletico Madrid), Coloccini and Douglas (Twente) are good picks too.

I've heard all of these mentioned & am willing to accept they could be good enough for us but personally although I've seen games with these players in, I've never really noticed I was watching them wheras Thiago Silva (& Samba tbf) usually does something in a game which makes me take notice.

He's exactly the sort of player we need - someone who can compete with the more physical players. Not what you'd want week in week out but could help against QPR. Also useful when we're one down against Barca to stick up front and go back to basics

Just read that Yakubu's only 29! Thought he was mid 30s. He's one of those players who seems to have been around for forever.

It's usually the same with footballers from that part of the world. In reality he's probably about 35.

He seems such a journeyman, has been striker though, whereas at 29 they are meant to be in the peak of their career.

His total lack of discipline regarding eating seems to be his biggest problem. He's a lot slimmer now than he has been but even now he could still lose a fair bit of weight. If he was a really dedicated pro, there's no telling how good he could be, but he's not.
