It's gutting when the keeper makes a save and the penalty taker scores the rebound.
At the time, I wished the rules to be different, or the penalty taker shouldn't be allowed to touch it etc.
One thing I did notice at the time, we were slow to react. I know I'm not a professional, but every time I play, and a penalty is being taken. I take the same number of steps back from the line what the kicker takes from the ball.
I run with the kicker so the second they strike the ball, I'm on the line, with the momentum to run in the area.
Kickers usually stop and watch the ball after the strike it, which means they have to start running again for a rebound. Already being at full pelt, if you're lucky enough to be on the correct side as well, will negate that 6 yard advantage.
For us Lescott was first to react, but still reacted after Shrek did.
Penalties always favour the kicker. IF the keeper saves the penalty, and that's not likely, they need to push it to the sides, or around the post, and still recover before the kicker gets to the ball.
