After all the controversy that surrounded Vincent Kompany’s red card against Manchester United for a two-footed tackle on Nani in the FA Cup third round last weekend, there have been calls for Johnson to face retrospespective punishment.
But talkSPORT has been told there will be no follow-up disciplinary action.
A spokesman confirmed that referee Lee Mason saw the incident at the Etihad Stadium and decided not to book or send off Johnson.
That means the FA cannot get involved as they can only deal with 'off the ball incidents' that may have been missed by the officials.

Clichy's turn prevented a disaster IMO. While I do not think it is something that would have been an issue in the past, in light of the VK situation this is something that should have been addressed as well.

video technology brought in. because every decision would be analysed and players would be claimimg for every single thing. i heard one caller on a phone in say they should have a ref in each half ffs, foy in one and mason in the other can you imagine that be like ww3.

Good post...highlights the knots the game has tied itself into. The players are cuter (not in a sexual sense), the game is faster, technique is, andy carroll being the exception, improved, in the main..and in the main flair players are more protected from brazen thuggery...injuries are more prevalent, or maybe, footballers are just rather delicate. Tactics have been refined to a point where the opposition cannot be allowed to have the ball (think about it, and watch a game from the late eighties...acres of space on the pitch...even at international level the "pressing" championed by coaches has left referees with a problem they never used to have, ie split decision making, sometimes two or three key decisions within a minute or two... either way, something needs to be done to move with the way the game has evolved over the last twenty years. I advocate video evidence but I take your point about players using this to their advantage, and would suggest a limit to two appeals per team per match. If Lee Mason wants to take us back to the seventies go ahead, but in the context of foy's folly it shows up the frustrations of fan, manager, and, I would think, player, all too well.
