And you based this on what ?, the fairy stories leaked to the press by the numpty hughes perhaps,
There was certainly no prevarication with either manager before, SP had turned down an offer of three million (With a large jump in wages) for Danny with the players full agreement, SGE had held contract talks with Danny that were all agreeded but not yet signed when he was fired, those terms were exactly the same as the other accademy graduates........numpty offered him half.

Roberto Mancini laments the loss of Daniel Sturridge on the cheap
Rob Dawson February 29, 2012
If Roberto Mancini had his way, there would have been one more Manchester City player checking in at the Grove Hotel in North London on Sunday evening. City are well represented in Stuart Pearce’s squad with Joe Hart, Gareth Barry, Joleon Lescott, Micah Richards and Adam Johnson all swapping Carrington for London Colney ahead of the re-arranged friendly with Holland tonight. Mancini, however, remains disappointed that Daniel Sturridge only had to travel across the capital to join the England squad, instead of journeying from Manchester. So disappointed in fact, that the Italian, who arrived after Sturridge left City for Chelsea in 2009, made a point of challenging the striker in the tunnel after a game against Bolton at the end of last season. “I asked him last year when he played for Bolton why he left Manchester City and he said he didn’t know,” said Mancini. “I know Sturridge well, I have watched him many times. “Given the chance I think I would have liked to have kept him, but now he is at Chelsea we can do nothing. I know for sure he was one of the best young players that was here.” Pearce is well aware of Sturridge’s ability having blooded the then 17-year-old when manager of City and then taking him to the European Under-21 Championships last summer. After Carlo Ancelotti loaned him to Bolton, Andre Villas-Boas cast aside experienced campaigners like Nicolas Anelka, Florent Malouda and Saloman Kalou to make Sturridge central to his revolution at Chelsea. David Silva: I want to stay at Manchester City for at least two more years He's back! Carlos Tevez turns out for Manchester City EDS squad They are high-profile casualties of the 22-year-old’s rise but Mancini remains unsurprised. He is, however, willing to question why he was allowed to slip through the net at City. “It was not difficult to see that Sturridge was going to be a good player. It was strange because he started out in Manchester and someone let him out of the club for nothing.” Sturridge, who City insisted had asked for astronomical wages to stay, wasn’t allowed to leave for nothing. But the fee set by an FA tribunal – reported to be £3m rising to £6m – was a great deal lower than if it had been agreed on the inflated open market. If Jordan Henderson, a year Sturridge’s junior, is worth £20m to Liverpool then Sturridge, scorer of 11 goals for Chelsea from a wide position in a front three, could command double that, such is the demand for young, English talent. Sheikh Mansour has made a commitment to youth development by pledging £100m for a new training complex in the shadow of the Etihad Stadium. It’s money to make sure Sturridge is the last one who gets away.

But, it wasnt, and like Michael Johnson and Stephen Ireland with the best will in the world none of those three, even at their best, would hold down a place in the side now. You should never go back. wives, girlfriends, jobs, -sequels, bands getting back together, re-signing footballers...(even SWP, sadly)...just leave it and move on.

With that in mind, can you give us your opinion of the re-signing of Billy Meredith and Denis Law?

EXCLUSIVE: Man City want to buy Sturridge back from Chelsea
By Sami Mokbel
Last updated at 11:02 PM on 2nd March 2012
Manchester City are plotting a sensational bid to bring Daniel Sturridge back to the club after enquiring about the Chelsea striker’s contract situation.
Sportsmail has learned that City have been asked to be kept updated on developments regarding Sturridge's future.
The England international only left the Etihad Stadium in July 2009 after agreeing to join Chelsea following a contract dispute.
Sturridge's future at Stamford Bridge has been the subject of growing speculation in recent weeks.
The forward is keen to start negotiations over a new Chelsea deal, though the club are yet to call him in for formal discussions due to the fact he still has two years left on his existing contract.
And the 22-year-old is growing increasingly agitated at Andre Villas-Boas' decision to use him in a wide role, rather than his preferred central striker position.
News of his concerns have filtered back to his former club, who are now trying to manoeuvre themselves into a position to strike if Sturridge becomes obtainable.
Chelsea will offer Sturridge a new contract, which will include a significant pay-rise from his current £65,000-per-week package.
But City's decision to take a watching brief on how the situation regarding Sturridge's contract develops is an interesting development.
Roberto Mancini is a huge admirer of Sturridge and admitted this week that he found it 'strange' that City - who were managed by Mark Hughes at the time - let him leave.
And the Italian would jump at the chance at having Sturridge back at the club in the future.
However, City will not be the only in club for Sturridge if he becomes available. Sportsmail revealed last month how Arsenal are also keeping close tabs on Sturridge.
