He counts as home grown and thats important these days to a team. I would have him back for that reason. 20 million though? Thats too steep.

Our wealth seems to attract selfish players. IMO Sturruidge has a bad attitude and over inflated ego. He has talent no doubt but we could be looking at Balo Mark 2. Takes the wrong option too many times for me.

We'd get part of the £20m back though as we have the resale clause in our favour from the tribunal?

Good point about the home grown, has talent and isn't as random as a Mario or an Adebayor so I could see him fitting in well with the current setup.

Surely he would end up as 4th or 5th or even 6th choice player for any of the front 3 positions though & end up sulking all the time?

If we get rid of Dzeko &/or Balotelli & sign Sturridge, even though they haven't 'gelled' as well as we hoped, we are still downgrading imo & I just can't see Bob doing that without making a big move alongside it; more likely he would sign another top quality attacker then add Sturridge as a squad player surely ?

If Bob stays I wouldnt be surprised if he tries to get Ibra from AC probably to replace Dzeko.

He'd be 3rd choice behind aguero and tevez surely? He is not remotely a downgrade and bob already said he would have him straight in the team!

So if we got an injury to Tevez (if he's still here) or Aguero, we would feel happy going to play in the Nou Camp with a bloke who can't keep a non scoring Torres or Malouda out of Chelsea's team, playing upfront ?

I recon if you offered Chelsea Dzeko or Balotelli for Sturridge they would snap your hand off.

We usually have 1, 2, 3 or 4 front(ish) positions depending on how we play which are usually taken by a mixture of Aguero, Dzeko, Balotelli, (Tevez) Silva, AJ and Nasri. All of those are better at their specific jobs than Sturridge imo.

I recon next season we could see Dzeko, Tevez & AJ go. In which case I recon Dzeko & Tevez would be replaced by the likes of Cavani, Hazard or Lavezzi & AJ would be the bloke who is replaced by Sturridge; an occasional starter.

Goes missing far too much in matches but then again we have a few attackers like that currently in the squad so it wouldnt be anything new.

Plus he'd be handy for hown grown at home and in Europe.

Maybe he could fulfill his potential back here?

That's fine but his he going to wear it if he's not starting games, which, unless he improves 100%, he won't be ?

I would only have him back to fulfill squad criteria Ted. I dont think thats the right reason to sign a player. I dont think he is, or will ever be a top player.

Which ever additional strikers we get we need them to have the right attitude. They need to have patience and maturity to sit on the bench when required and not let it effect their self confidence. Guidetti and Sturridge have both said they would not be happy sitting on the bench as Dzeko has done. Both are potential trouble makers.
(I've heard the rags carry out in depth investigations into all aspects of their prospective signings including mental attitude).
IMO we need a consistent and reliable player who is nearing the end of their career, someone like Forlan or Henry.

Strange as it may sound but I am sure City also carry out in depth into all aspects of prospective signings. That was a real part of what Mike Rigg and his scouts were all about. The first reason we should go for Sturridge ( if we do) must surely be that he would be able to play in our first team and be a real contributor. For that he would need to be able to play the sort of football we want to play and not be a selfish,it's all about me character.Only second would it be important that he would be prepared to play 2nd fiddle, which I agree he wouldnt be happy to.

I would have said Sturridge is best suited to a team outside the top 4 where he would be the number one man.

I agree entirely.

Sturridge is a talent who has no idea how to play football (like many graduates of City's academy) & needs to be playing regularly under a manager who will teach him at least some of the right habits. As you say, a team who will regularly finish outside the top 4 in future would be ideal.

Spurs or Liverpool perhaps ?

Or crucify him if he fails to live up to it.

Tbf, international football is pretty shit & disjointed & a lad with the basic talent & pace Sturridge has should thrive in it. He barely did anything at all in the last England match, was proper lazy & still got MOTM though, so I think your point about the media is a worryingly good one.

what you all wanted to hear from the Daily Star

MANCHESTER CITY READY IF DANIEL STURRIDGE QUITS CHELSEA

ABOVE: If Sturridge decides he has to move on, Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini will sit up and given that Chelsea also have Fernando Torres, Juan Mata, Ramires, Florent Malouda and Romelu Lukaku fighting for the attacking positions – and Brazil’s Hulk could be on the way, too – Sturridge looks unlikely to get as many games as he would like
3rd June 2012 By Hetho: Our man in the know

DANIEL STURRIDGE’S future at Chelsea is in increasing doubt as a result of the European champions’ early transfer business.

Sturridge, 22 lost his place in the starting line-up last season and his chances of regaining it have not been helped by the signings of German ace Marko Marin and now Belgium star Eden Hazard.

As he also failed to make England’s squad for Euro 2012, it’s believed that Sturridge is considering his options.

Marin, 23, is arriving at Stamford Bridge in a £6million deal from Werder Bremen and is confident that he will force his way into the side.

And at £30m, Hazard certainly can expect plenty of starts after Chelsea won their battle with the Manchester clubs for Lille’s wonder boy.

Given that Chelsea also have Fernando Torres, Juan Mata, Ramires, Florent Malouda and Romelu Lukaku fighting for the attacking positions – and Brazil’s Hulk could be on the way, too – Sturridge looks unlikely to get as many games as he would like.

If Sturridge decides he has to move on, Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini will sit up and take note.

As reported previously in this column, the Italian coach was dismayed that Sturridge was allowed to leave City for Chelsea before his arrival at the club.

The Stamford Bridge club won the battle for Hazard, 21, not only because they captured the Champions League and the underlying appeal that created but for financial reasons, too.

Hazard’s £8m-a-year wages weren’t a problem and Chelsea also struck a deal with his agent, John Bico.

He wanted £6m for his part in the switch and Chelsea reached a compromise agreement, whereas City and United felt they were paying enough with the fee and Hazard’s wages
