Some interesting opinions on here, but I think Rafa Benitez would be a baby step in the right direction- nothing more. He'd probably get Liverpool in the top 6 and win a cup to appease the fans but nothing more. Have no allusions, breaking into the top 4 for the Scousers now WOULD be like winning the league, no question.
I often wonder just how split Mourinho was in the summer of '04 before joining Chelsea. Was he genuinely interested in the post at Liverpool, had it been offered, and how would history have changed had he gone to Anfield?
It would be interesting to see Mourinho go to a club where everything wasn't on a plate for him to succeed.
I know he did well to build a team in Portugal but doing it here is a different matter.
Could he be tempted, in the future, to take on a situation like Liverpool and actually try to build a team or will he just do the obvious and replace one of the top managers here ?
If Liverpool don't get back in the Champion's League soon, they will be in the position we were in, where the top sides have moved away from them not just in in quality but also financially & they need an influx of money to catch up.
