Just evidence that the side needed time to gel after so many summer signings?
People really should stop defending Hughes now and admit that City's owners did the right thing in replacing him.
The two aren't mutually exclusive.
Yes we did the right thing. No Hughes isn't a title winning manager.
That said he's clearly not complete shit. He's just an average prem manager. That takes a lot of skill and hard work.
Agree and there was always a small possibility that he could step up and manage a big club if given enough time but once FFP was announced we didn't have the luxury of waiting to find out. Seeing the same old faces supporting Hughes now who failed to understand the ramifications of UEFA's policy change at the time, and were often quite vitriolic in their attacks on those that did, just draws the need to point out his continued averageness and that the owner, the directors, and those that saw/foresaw the need for change have been vindicated.
where to start
"Agree": me too
"small possibilty": realistic expectation. bit of a pitiful dig that.
"failed to understand the ramifications..." that's poor and patronising even for you Jon.
"often vitriolic" - yeah it gets heated and I think on balance the haters were a lot more vitriolic than the lickers. A lot more.
and still are as it turns out
"just draws the need to point out": in you maybe. Can't you just get over it?
I asked Antii to let it go. You've waded in with your foresight and unique grasp of FFP and can't resist the digs at those who don't think he's a half wit. Well guess what, he's actually, factually not shit. But he's not our manager any more so it doesn't matter.
He's gone, the lickers are over it, it was the right thing. Let it go.
Memories of debates along the lines of...
ME: New rules mean we need to bring the plan forward and cannot risk waiting to see if Hughes can step up
YOU and your ILK :you just don't like him cos he's a rag
ME: Nothing to do with that, he is sowing a lack of imagination and has failed to expand his coaching team beyond his Welsh mates
YOU and your ILK: you just don't like him cos he's a rag
ME: I don't care who he used to play for, I opposed his appointment because his previous side played such one dimensional football but once he was in place was willing to see if he had it in him to build something until UEFA messed with the plans and now we need to move on quickly and roll the dice with someone who is a better bet (Mancini).
YOU and your ILK: you are a traitor acting against the interests of the club just because you don't like him having been a rag...
I've got over Hughes long ago. What I have yet to get over is the poison that came from you and others like you just because I dared to have a different vision for the club, one it turned out the owner and board shared. Way worse than anything that was said during the heated Barton debates of the years before. I have refrained for two and a half years from "I told you so's" but the suppressed anger needs a release at some point and this seems as good a time as any to say what needs to be said. And if you feel patronised, on this occasion you deserve it.
