shluuuuuuuurp.

It's already been stated that Hughes earned 132% of the points-per-game that Warnock did. Basically, for every three points Warnock earned, Hughes earned four. Or, to put it another way, if - as NQDP asserts -Warnock was going to deliver them to safety by having the full season (hitting 40 points), Hughes would have likewise gotten them into eighth place (53 points) over the same number of games.

This season, we earned 125% of the points-per-game that we did last season.

If Warnock 'just about matched' Hughes, then our performance this season must have been 'pretty much the same' as last season.

FFS...Warnock had a fuckign brand new team for the first 20 games or so.

who's idea was that then?

Yes, I will admit that he had pretty much a brand new team, but they were players he chose to sign.

So you reckon they weren't settled during Warnock's tenure whatsoever, but somehow blended just in time for Hughes to take over?

Also, they earned 12 of their 17 points under Warnock in their first 9 games, and five in the next 11, which kind of puts paid to the 'time to blend' theory...

Maybe they would have gelled under Warnock, and finished higher. But then again, maybe we'd have also won the Premier League under Hughes (I don't believe either, by the way). The fact is, we don't know, and all we can do is state our opinions, and back them up with statistics. Or, if you're NQDP, state your facts.

By Carl's logic we should have kept Hughes other year as Mancini got city just as Hughes had got them gelled.

People really should stop defending Hughes now and admit that City's owners did the right thing in replacing him.

The two aren't mutually exclusive.

Yes we did the right thing. No Hughes isn't a title winning manager.

That said he's clearly not complete shit. He's just an average prem manager. That takes a lot of skill and hard work.

Agree and there was always a small possibility that he could step up and manage a big club if given enough time but once FFP was announced we didn't have the luxury of waiting to find out. Seeing the same old faces supporting Hughes now who failed to understand the ramifications of UEFA's policy change at the time, and were often quite vitriolic in their attacks on those that did, just draws the need to point out his continued averageness and that the owner, the directors, and those that saw/foresaw the need for change have been vindicated.

where to start

"Agree": me too
"small possibilty": realistic expectation. bit of a pitiful dig that.
"failed to understand the ramifications..." that's poor and patronising even for you Jon.
"often vitriolic" - yeah it gets heated and I think on balance the haters were a lot more vitriolic than the lickers. A lot more.
and still are as it turns out
"just draws the need to point out": in you maybe. Can't you just get over it?

I asked Antii to let it go. You've waded in with your foresight and unique grasp of FFP and can't resist the digs at those who don't think he's a half wit. Well guess what, he's actually, factually not shit. But he's not our manager any more so it doesn't matter.

He's gone, the lickers are over it, it was the right thing. Let it go.

Memories of debates along the lines of...
ME: New rules mean we need to bring the plan forward and cannot risk waiting to see if Hughes can step up
YOU and your ILK :you just don't like him cos he's a rag
ME: Nothing to do with that, he is sowing a lack of imagination and has failed to expand his coaching team beyond his Welsh mates
YOU and your ILK: you just don't like him cos he's a rag
ME: I don't care who he used to play for, I opposed his appointment because his previous side played such one dimensional football but once he was in place was willing to see if he had it in him to build something until UEFA messed with the plans and now we need to move on quickly and roll the dice with someone who is a better bet (Mancini).
YOU and your ILK: you are a traitor acting against the interests of the club just because you don't like him having been a rag...

I've got over Hughes long ago. What I have yet to get over is the poison that came from you and others like you just because I dared to have a different vision for the club, one it turned out the owner and board shared. Way worse than anything that was said during the heated Barton debates of the years before. I have refrained for two and a half years from "I told you so's" but the suppressed anger needs a release at some point and this seems as good a time as any to say what needs to be said. And if you feel patronised, on this occasion you deserve it.

I don't have an ILK Jon, and I don't do poison or vitriol.

You're entitled to vent whatever you want, but please vent it in the direction of someone who said or did what you describe (and I do remember it).

You're calling out the wrong man. And in my opinion this is not as good a time as any btw.

Strange. I seem to remember that being a proportionately small part of your justification (although I admit that it was a part).

Others were:
- Bring in Hiddink, 'cos he's won the European Cup.
- Hughes destroyed our academy, and would never bring players through:
One thing that is clear is that Academy players actually have a hope of getting in the first team now Mancini is manager

And other gems.

Another interesting comment from you, in the context of Warnock getting the team to gel just in time for Hughes:

Now:
Just evidence that the side needed time to gel after so many summer signings?

Then (April 2010):
... you could equally say that Hughes had the benefit of having hand picked the players and several years experience of the league he was managing in while Mancini had to get to know the players from scratch

Please Mods feel free to twist my nick to Arteriosclerotic4ever, but I can't stop laughing on this whole!

I only have a HUGE regret: not have been in the knowledge of this/previous version Forum in the Royle or Pearce era...

If there's a way to show to a Latin the actual meaning of British Humour, well the Hughes/Mancini feud on here is a brillant sample

can't have enough

1. "unintelligible language"
2. "ACID QUEEN"
3. "never once fails to turn a football thread into a himseelf thread"
4. "thumbs stalker often resulting in repetitive thumb strain"
5. ignore the cunt. he's on permantent wum mission. only TIDs may know City

You'd need to make a very good psychiatrist in order to guess what next in a eight yrs long line of hatred...

In Roger Ailes/Donnie Drumpf's words: "don't know it for a fact, but many people say so..."
there must be some truth, then!

I seem to remember that one of the worst things about Hughes, which proved he was a wanker, was when he swapped SWP & Petrov over onto the opposite sides of the pitch for five mins once.

Only a clueless cunt would do that.

Oh yes and he did change everything at the academy (Khaldoon and Co were powerless to stop him) & of course we weren't going to spend any money and won't be doing now, so we don't want to let that cretin waste tens of millions on people like Kompany, Zabaletta, De Jong, Barry and Lescott. And he'll never get the best out of Robinho.

I freely admit that Mancini is a big improvement on Hughes but some people were full of shit then and are full of shit now. With selective memories.

BiB - The academy was definitely a point of mine yes and he was fucking it up! Never been a fan of Hiddink, better than Hughes but not my cup of tea at all.

Ted - having read your complete drivel that about fifty cheerleaders piped up in agreement with in that old thread of nqdp's I would stay out of this one if I was you. Sometimes the majority view is just wrong, in this case you were.

Alex, you do yourself a disservice, your fury was relayed to me in no uncertain terms. I only ever had the good of the club at heart and it was as clear as day to me what the owners were going to have to do if they weren't going to rip their plans up. I was disappointed that you and certain other senior posters couldn't see that. I've aired the grievance now and have nothing more to say.

Ironic that this should be in a thread about bullyboy Barton after the previous grief I had for saying he was an overrated footballer and a thug that was bringing our club into disrepute. That is even more ancient history mancio...
