I'd go with Weaver's saves over the Sergio goal.

Weaver's saves were massively important, but by that stage we had the momentum in the match and were looking like the favourites to get promoted.
When Dickov scored his goal, we were down and out, and destined to spend another year in Division 2. The sheer emotion of that moment when his shot hits the net was unbelievable and completely transformed us in a split second. We were only a few seconds from losing that match but his goal changed everything.
Just my two cents anyway...

Dickov's saved us from footballing ruin, easily the most important goal in our history.
The importance of Dickov's goal will NEVER be beaten.
Ted Hughes wrote:Aguero's goal will always be 'that goal' as far as the football world is concerned, but for City it will always be Dickov's. Without it, Aguero's would never have happened.

This is perceived wisdom these days but I'm not so sure.
The great Gods of Football return things to their natural state. We would have been back at the top by now. we would have been back five years ago. Yes, we were in a shambles, but look at Southampton, in administration, points docked etc, but they have got back from Div 1 fairly quickly from a far worse position than us. Our fans didn't desert us for a start.
Winning the league was something I thought I'd not see us achieve in my lifetime.
Oh and when I read the title of this thread, I instantly assumed it was talking about Sergio's effort. Q.E.D.

There seems to be a need for some of our fans to be melodramatic. We had more money than any club in that division better rep, prestige and pulling power to get players that were medium prem quality. The consequence of Dickov not scoring would have been got over the following year.Would anybody have stopped supporting us if we lost.I think not.
Apparently the Sheikh was interested in Newcastle but was put off by the lack of space around their ground to develop.Ted Hughes wrote:It would also have made the Keegan era unlikely & had us yoyoing up & down divisions for the forseeable future, which means the Sheikh would now own Newcastle or similar.
