Probably down to Taggart's parting words, 'Take it easy and don't come back injured'.

That whole thing was a mess & people didn't seem to understand what their job was. Usually it's the CF who is detailed to pick up the oppo CB but nobody seemed to have that job or a zone to mark either.
Imo, not just at that moment but for most of the game, JT lost it. He was getting in some good tackles & interceptions but he was so far off the pace that in order to protect his own game, he was ignoring his job as captain & leader of the defence & just randomly attacking the ball, thus Johnson & Cole were drifting all over the shop & Lescott/Terry were two individuals rather than a partnership. It appeared to me that by the end Lescott ended up doing a lot of the shouting that Terry was supposed to be doing & was effectively the captain.

He's not captain anymore mate.
Beefymcfc wrote:I don't get how you see that mate, Lescott? For the 2nd, Lescott had his man running towards the back post. Terry, Cole and Johnson had the 3 just in front. Cole stood and watched the ball sail over him, Terry didn't drop enough leading to the same and Johnson just lost his man and stood staring.
Back to Young though, for the 1st he was the man to go with the runner at the back, which he did but then decided to leave him and run out of the box pointing to the wing. Joe then makes a great save from a player who would've been offside if it wasn't for Johnson's bad positioning and who eventually undid Joe's good work.
If you don't believe me take a gander.

Regardless who had who, the centre back should not have a starting position way beyond the back post. Whether its lescott or hodgsons fault tactically i dont know, but lescott should have been in the middle of that dancefloor, not out in no mans land marking nobody as it turned out
Ted is right, the whole thing was a bit of a mess, but it is their respinsibility to organise thise set pieces and they fucked up, as did cole losing his man.

Haha. I get why people think he's shit, I really do. But even when he doesn't make things happen, he remains capable of making things happen. We saw that in the pre-tourney friendlies. And if Young is shunted, that means Downing is in. Please. God. No.
