Imo, not just at that moment but for most of the game, JT lost it. He was getting in some good tackles & interceptions but he was so far off the pace that in order to protect his own game, he was ignoring his job as captain & leader of the defence & just randomly attacking the ball, thus Johnson & Cole were drifting all over the shop & Lescott/Terry were two individuals rather than a partnership. It appeared to me that by the end Lescott ended up doing a lot of the shouting that Terry was supposed to be doing & was effectively the captain.

it was going on long before taggart, mate.

They also seem to pick up all the red cards for England (bar that knobcheese alan mullery). beckham twice, scholes, wooney twice, and further back robson and wilkins. Which over-hyped mune prima donna will it be this time?

True but he's still the bloke who the other defenders would expect to lead them & organise the less experienced players around him. I've no doubt that he's the bloke who's supposed to call the shots at the back & if not, why bother using him at all ?

We were effectively without a leader for that match, as Gerrard is too busy playing his own game too.

Cole stood and watched the ball sail over him, Terry didn't drop enough leading to the same and Johnson just lost his man and stood staring.

Back to Young though, for the 1st he was the man to go with the runner at the back, which he did but then decided to leave him and run out of the box pointing to the wing. Joe then makes a great save from a player who would've been offside if it wasn't for Johnson's bad positioning and who eventually undid Joe's good work.

If you don't believe me take a gander.

Regardless who had who, the centre back should not have a starting position way beyond the back post. Whether its lescott or hodgsons fault tactically i dont know, but lescott should have been in the middle of that dancefloor, not out in no mans land marking nobody as it turned out

Ted is right, the whole thing was a bit of a mess, but it is their respinsibility to organise thise set pieces and they fucked up, as did cole losing his man.

It was obvious he was given/took that spot and was splitting two. The 3 in the middle had their 3, it's as simple as that.

You can't blame someone for not being where they are not supposed to be, even if you think they should've been. It's like blaming someone for burglary just because they walked past the house that was being robbed.

Haha. I get why people think he's shit, I really do. But even when he doesn't make things happen, he remains capable of making things happen. We saw that in the pre-tourney friendlies. And if Young is shunted, that means Downing is in. Please. God. No.

I don't mind his attacking game (for the reason you mentioned) but for the kind of games we're expecting under Roy, IE nick a goal and cling on for dear life, he's a total liability when we don't have the ball, or we're in transition to attack. At least we could carry him in the first game because he was shunted further upfield but next game Rooney is back so he's going to be out wide again.

Putting the words "shit" and "Young" in the same sentence is being disrespectful to shit. If you wanna see how bad Young is watch our 2nd goal at the Swamp. Milner leaves him for dead. Mainly because he stands still and can't be arsed tracking back. At least Milner applied some pressure last night. That led to Olsson clearing the ball straight to Gerrard for the first goal. He also put a decent ball in for Welbeck which is 2 more useful things than Young did. I also think we looked a lot weaker defensively on the right when Milner went off.

I thought there was something wrong with my tv everytime Parker appeared. He seemed to be in slow motion compared to the rest of the team and spent most of the game going round in circles or giving the ball away. I'd have taken him off and shifted Milner inside when Walcott came on.
Balotelli......that's a brilliant finish.
