The Bad Old Days

Postby Ted Hughes » Mon Jul 02, 2012 10:37 pm

For anyone here in Limey who can access ITV player & has 48 mins to kill , I recommend this little gem, especially for the old farts. It's available on there for about a month.

Swales, chaos, dreadful comedy team selections, gay refs, Peter Bodak, terrible defending, terrible finishing, Helen's Bell, Elton Welsby, 'City Aggro', Ricky Villa, and how incredibly apt is the identity of the commentator ? How times change.

Also check out the faces in the Wolves/Barnsley game (& marvel at Barnsley's ball playing centre half). Also Alan Brazil v rags.

I challenge you not to lol at David Cross, I did.

Everton fans loyal as ever even back then btw.

Drink it in .

I was in the Kippax pissed up at the game, as per all games that season. I think I only missed a couple of away trips that year.
Happy times socially. Nearly 18 the world was my oyster.
But fuck me that was probably the worst season football wise watching City.
Not sure if I could endure any more TV highlights from later in the season, especially that kerb crawling cunt Pleat dancing on the pitch. TWAT.

Funny, I have box of old match day programmes stashed in the closet. Of course my little lad found it yesterday and brought me one from 2002/03 season saying "this this this" (which means I am supposed to read it to him). Being in English we settled for watching pics (Foe, Goat scoring against rags in 3-1 derby, BWP and Croft for Academy etc). Anyway, we had personal sponsor program called "adoptaplayer". Some of the names got me thinking how much we have moved on in only ten years. Some players were sponsored by individual families and others were clearly small time local businesses. Could you imagine David Silva being sponsored by "The Ogden Family from Preston" or Kompany by "Apollo sunbeds".

Not bad times at all but really something to think about.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

I have been re watching some season reviews from the bad old days and have to say there great to watch, even to see some players playing against us that went on to have decent careers, seen a young joleon lescott get sent off for wolves against us! One thing that was apparent was former players always had a blinder against us, i highly recommend people to re watch these as its amazing how much you forget, great looking back now that we know there is a happy ending!

I have read about the documentary i wonder can i access it from ireland(in work now), id say its funny to watch.
derby day the scores were level,

I saw it on itv4 a couple of days ago...

Dire, dire football! But real men with real shorts.

Great interviews, Swales looked like a turd, lest we forget

How lucky are we to have the sheik?

I've been watching old reviews this week waiting on the new one.

Funny Jess says why don't we have the next one back and I reply oh that's the worst season ever, entertainment wise. Think I'll buy it now ghosts are gone.

Care to guess which year?

They haven't changed all that much, we're still sponsored by a family...

I have it on VHS but wouldn't have any idea how to convert it or share.

I just thought that was drab & dull without the full, City, midboggling, belief beggaring, tragi-comedy chaos that Swales used to specialise in.

Absolutely. I gave up my season ticket after that season before getting it back after the first game of Sven's season. I could live with the drama, had a season ticket into the third tier and back, but that season, especially from Xmas onwards was enough to put people off football for life. Never has the phrase 'the beautiful game' been less apt

.

remember seeing it at the ice hockey and then we started doing it. Mark and Lard off Radio 1 sponsored Tiatto's underwear, if I remember rightly.

About the same time, I used to work in Carrington and remember driving past Steve Howey and Paul Dickov who were cycling on the road with HGVs going past at about 50mph. Can't imagine Kompany and Aguero being sent out for a training ride now.
