I played a lot of football in New Zealand, England and Scotland and was constantly referred to as a 'mick' or 'paddy' bastard, cunt etc. does this carry the same weight as black or is it just colour that is appropriate these days?

Racial abuse is usually when the word "Black" is introduced into the insult....if "white" is introduced into the insult then it doesnt count.
