Yaya Toure, defends when he wants.
Before all the thought police start:
I THINK YAYA IS ONE OF THE BEST PLAYERS IN THE WORLD.
He is capable of doing almost anything anyone else on the pitch can do.
BUT
He can be an absolute liability defensively & some of his defending in the last two home games in particular has been absolutely fucking shocking. It is adding to the uncertainty of the back 4 & while it's ok v the likes of QPR, we need to get back to a solid midfield for the big games, particularly the Champions League.
Either that or tell yaya not to come forward at all, which imo is a complete waste & may still result in him letting a player run off him.
He gives up on doing his defensive job several times per game & if that happens to coincide with a decent pass or strike on goal, it can cost us. If he's in an area of our box for set pieces, he sometimes switches off or fails to spot danger when he really should, with his experience, read the situation.
He CAN defend as well as anybody but sometimes he just doesn't & sometimes if he sees a man in a dangerous area, he just doesn't try go & rescue the situation, even when with his pace he could.
If we have him playing the same role v Real Madrid as he played v QPR & Southampton, they will run all over us.
We need at least two behind him & to treat him the same way as we do Silva or Nasri ie; don't trust him to defend, see it as a bonus when he does.

You have been making this complaint for a while and it seems there is being nothing done about it.
The thing is everybody makes mistakes (even that de rossi who has not been hunted by a big club) and considering all the other good stuff Yaya does a few flaws here and there are something you are gonna have to get used to.

It's also my very personal opinion that, more than by lazyiess Yaya attitude at defensive tasks is influenced by his huge body and physical demands of the various box to box runs he does pretty every games: I'd tend to call it an experienced management of efforts (which not always works perfectly fine, I do agree)
I also think that You don't have to worry because we will start at Barnabeu almost like this:
Hart
Rodwell Kompany Lescott
Maicon __ Garcia Yaya __ Clichy
Silva __ Tevez
Aguero (Dzeko/Balo)

I think (hope) you are probably right about that kind of lineup but I could also imagine
................Hart
....Zabba.. Kompany...Lescott
Maicon ... Garcia.. Barry(Rodwell) ...Clichy
............Silva ....Yaya
...............Aguero( or Tevez Dzeko/Balo)
It just shows the options the new signings have given us immediately, compared to last season.
I also think mr Nasty may come into this equation (not at the B but in the near future). If he's successfully marked Ibrahimovic out of a game in Serie A , & the fact that Bob was willing to gamble on Savic last season, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Nasty played in this kind of line up in the next few months.
