Hughes would walk mate, he is way too proud for that and definitely likes to be in control.
So why did he openly say that Jo was his signing and that he wanted him and that there was absolutely no interference in who he signed for City?
To make it seem like he was in control when he wasn't of course. He has even said recently that he nearly walked out soon after that.
Nope. I said he needs to be in control and to be seen to be in control. Didn't say he always has been in control.

I would class Hiddink as the best manager in World football at the moment but;

(A The most likely scenario; he comes in on A short term contract and we'd have to find another replacement shortly after. Not a good culture to get into.

(B If it was a long term affair, the amount of upheaval would be ridiculous. Hughes has been quite clever in this respect, building the club from scratch with 'his' people, from the academy to staff and players. Obviously managers always want a side in their image but Hughes has been really serious with this. Having done all this building over the last 18 months, it seems like madness to tear it all apart and start again. I'm not saying he's a great manager, nor that he's invincible but handing the reigns to Hiddink, or anyone else, would be a poor move at this stage. If it becomes absolutely clear that we're going nowhere, take action then. In the mean time we might as well sit back and watch the 'project' develop further.

As it stands we're sixth. Not a wonderful start nor a disaster. At the risk of sounding clíched, the next couple of months leading into the January window will tell us a lot about where we stand. Can we go to big grounds and win? Can we handle an unforgiving run of games (December), have the right areas been addressed to deal with the inevitable injuries and suspensions that we'll face?

I can't wait to find out.

Hiddink's a good manager, but remember his last three jobs have involved a set quantity of players and he has gotten the best from them. Whether he has the club awareness to make the right purchases in the market with him being removed from that side of the job for so long is another matter.

Add to that he is 63 now and we need a manager who can(given they succeed) stay in the job for a decade and I think he would make the wrong choice. We are definitely following the filth's guide to success in having a youngish manager who can set this as his legacy in football management. Honestly if we could get past the disgusting human being he is, would you really want Taggart as manager knowing he has at best 3 more years in charge?

Hiddink did well at Chelsea last season,we need someone of his class to progress under our current megabucks ownership, unfortunately Hughes does not have the class as will probably be proved if we don't win at Anfield agaibst a poor Liverpool outfit.

I See where you are coming from Colin.

However surely Hughes recognises he is not the finished article yet, and that things are not progressing as nicely as he would have liked, by that I mean the football on the pitch, Hughes has a lot of qualities that can be tapped in to I think we all see he has potential in management.

The problems I see at City at the moment are on the coaching and tactical side, confusing systems, player selection, lack of tactics during game play, and the fundamental basics of defending as a unit.

We have a great squad and a young manager with potential nothing more, the coaching side looks at the best shambolic ,that’s my opinion formed on what I have seen on the pitch.

Maybe Hiddink is 63,but if he worked with Hughes for the next 4 years surely Hughes could learn so much from one of the best in the game.

I really believe we should get him on board with this ambitious project we have going on at City

Why wait until things go tits up before acting.

My humble opinion is that we don't look any better than we did last season, despite Hughes getting all his players in. Players are all over the place, we don't seem to have any shape, we can't defend for shit and we are letting in far, far too many goals despite having the best goalie in the country.

Richards has gone backwards, Lescott looks like he's never played before, Barry is getting worse by the game. Our best player from last year (Ireland) is played out of position or not played at all.

I think our problems are down to coaching. I'd have Hiddink in a heartbeat.

Then there are better and younger choices. I would prefer to have a manager who can start and see the job through.

Hiddink fans need to address the fact that he has just failed, at the hands of the mighty Slovenia of all teams, having first failed to qualify in the group. Despite someone on here telling us the Russian League was going to be the next big quality thing.

Hughes has been in management for 10 years. He is 47 which is the same age (give or take) as Mourinho. Taggert had won European Trophies in his early 40's. Heck Cloughie won the 1st Div title in his thirties (so ok the guy was genius). Benitez won La Liga in his early 40's and so on.

My point is that Hughes is not some young rookie manager elevated into a managerial role but an experienced international and PL manager whose potential has to a greater or lesser extent been demonstrated. If you think learning under Guus for 4 years is going to make Hughes 'youthful potential' blossom at the age of 51 (I mean fifty f**king one) then my flabber is well and truly gasted.

If on the other hand you just want Guus in to f**k Hughes off then I agree with you.

I think that first one is a stupid idea.....who would have Hughes as a director of football, he couldn't even direct traffic down a one-way street.........lets just get a World Class manager.

I would opt for the best tactical brain around until the summer (like Chelsea did) before they themselves got a top class manager, as there will be a few to choose from in July who would propell this side to superstardom.........Mourinho, Capello, Lippi, Hitzfeld, del Bosque, Rijkaard, Mancini or even Ranieri.

Them sides are more the level Hughes is capable of managing at.....the Wigan's, Blackburn's, Bolton's and Burnley's of this world are his standard, it's time he went back to that level himself, rather than take the club to that level.

He didn't do too badly at Chelsea in resurecting their season and getting them to the brink of European glory.

The last three roles he has had (South Korea, he did superb with to get them to the SF of the WC), Australia (got them to the WC Finals for the first time in christ knows how long, and was cheated out of it by a ref who decided 3 yellow cards meant red this time!) and then Russia....granted he should have done more with them, given the talent available to him....or percieved talent.

The trouble with managing National sides to a club side, apart from the obvious of not working with them as often as you would like, is that he can only select players born in that country, Capello is suffering the same fate with England in that he is forced to select the likes of Brown, Foster, Bridge, G Johnson, Jenas and Heskey, as England themselves simply don't have enough quality players to take their place of the needed ability level.

I think with some of the best players in World Football (Robinho, Tevez, Adebayor, SWP etc) he would make us solid at the back, creative when required in attack and get us climbing the table in no time.......the only box that needs ticking, is the one to request Hughes's P45 through the post, I hope Kool Khaldoon is doing that as I type this, and hands the pink slip to the pathetic RAG before we kick off at weekend.

We have been given a great opportunity to acquire a top class manager NOW!, lets grab it with both hands I say.

You seem to have formed negative opinions on everyone except Hughes ?

Hiddink is a World Class manager with a CV that says “been there done that have the t-shirt etc”

I wouldn’t be so sure about this Wonderwall.

I see a perfect storm brewing.

We have some really big games between now and Christmas, now if we win them or at least do reasonably well, then I tend to agree with your statement, there’s no way they would sack Hughes.

However.

If we carry on in a similar vein of form playing garbage football and we lose those games, then I think Hughes could have a P45 in his stocking for Christmas, for all I know our owners might already be making contingency plans and making indirect approaches to Hiddink to see how the land lies.

It would make perfect sense to sack him before January if Hiddink wants the job.

The next few weeks will be interesting.

Totally agree. His job is safe in my eyes for the remainder.
I would only guess he would get the sack if we failed to qualify for europe.
