It's all part of our pressing game. We often commit many players forward so when we do turn the ball over a foul is a great way of giving ourselves the opportunity to get back.
That's a good theory but when you see the attacks Arsenal had for instance, most could have been stopped with a foul, but few were; we chose to try & defend it fairly instead. Same with the breakaways by Southampton, QPR & Villa.
We know a team not far away from here who would have a certain range of assorted gingas kicking people's legs from underneath them in the same circumstances though don't we ?
Their game v Spurs they had marginally less of everything attacking wise than we did at Fulham & slightly less possession. They conceded 5 fouls, we conceded 12. Do you genuinely think we will have been more than twice as 'aggressive' as Utd in our game?
How many times though do you have an issue with the fouls that have been given against us? It may very well be that we are marked harder than the opposition but when a foul is given against us they are normally correct decisions.
I can't agree with that. Not in comparison to the opposition. It's the complete opposite for me, as if the oppo gets special considration to foul us as if it's somehow 'understandable' fouling considering how much passing we do; otherwise they wouldn't get the ball. Stoke being a prime example. Constantly fouling, constantly being allowed to. Without the fouls, they don't even figure in the game, it's just City playing v a bunch of traffic cones. They actually foul whilst in possession.
That's not what I asked you Ted. How many times a game do you see a foul given against us when you think it was a bad call? For me, 2 or 3 times a game. I also think we get away with the odd one or two as well.
I was answering that; no I don't agree that we get a fair call on fouls when you see the standard set by a ref in a particular game.
Sure we do get away with one or two, as does everybody, but I see people like Aguero/Tevez penalised for pushing or pulling a defender when they too are pushing him, then I see the exact same incident at the other end result in a free kick to the oppo attacker, where in reality neither was a free kick. In the case of Balotelli, they get it wrong in favour of the oppo once in every two challenges & people (even some City fans) say it's his own fault. He gets away with very little & defenders get away with quite a lot against him. Reffering to Stoke again; we were getting pulled up regularly for stuff Stoke were being allowed to get away with. If Mario did the slightest thing he was penalised, whilst they were allowed to kick lumps out of him. The criteria for a foul should be the same for both sides but often it's not.
Almost every challenge Crouch makes is illegal, so rather than pull him up every time, theylet him have a few for free. Same with Scholes & his 'tackling' which should result in at least one booking every game. If Mario even looks annoyed when they kick him, he gets a card just for being pissed off, without actually doing anything.
