Are you sure? I always remember it as having happened after he scored that last-minute volleyed winner at home to Reading.

can't believe i forgot Brightwell.

Just read a quote of Alan Kernaghan slagging us of in 1998 whilst playing for St Johnstone

If I remember correctly Fitzroy scored at home against Arsenal.

Same here I also thought it was after that goal. Superb goal too wasn't it!!

And as for the vote, absolutely a yes from me. a season where we beat scum twice, with that team, can't be anything else than a successful season imo. On top of that we were Flying for the first half of the season. What a joy it was to behold after the awful last months of Pearce's era. I still rate that Johnson goal against Derby very highly on my list. And that free kick by Elano against Newcastle? Wow. Petrov flying on the wings (on his good days). that already mentioned Ireland goal. the home derby. the away derby. Gelson running like a headless chicken...great moments!
even if the season went pearshaped after xmas we finished 9th which, for City at the time was a good season.

I was gutted to see Sven go. Fond memories of him and his season

Supeman boxers definitely made their debut after the volley against Sunderland on a Monday Night. Although I remember the Reading volley too, knock down (aimless header) by Samaras and Stevie lashed it into the top corner. Was stood in the bar with my brother and that goal made him £1300. Some drink was put away that day!

Always remember our first home game after we made all the signings and SkySports tried to make dicks out of our fans by showing them pictures of the players and some people not knowing who they all were.

Ps. I voted yes

I genuinely believe that, if Sven has had the backing, managing wise not only financially, of ADUG (because that's the comparison to apply) Roberto Mancini will not be the MCFC manager. the dynasty would have started 2 years earlier and my nick would be Svennis4ever

1. "unintelligible language"
2. "ACID QUEEN"
3. "never once fails to turn a football thread into a himseelf thread"
4. "thumbs stalker often resulting in repetitive thumb strain"
5. ignore the cunt. he's on permantent wum mission. only TIDs may know City

You'd need to make a very good psychiatrist in order to guess what next in a eight yrs long line of hatred...

In Roger Ailes/Donnie Drumpf's words: "don't know it for a fact, but many people say so..."
there must be some truth, then!

He built a team from nothing in about 3 week's and not only kept us up but had us comfortably in the top half all year.

Did a good job with the tools he was given, played some decent stuff and provided us with a double over Utd and a win at OT which wasnt exactly the common thing for City teams over the previous years.

It's a yes from me. I see that season as the turnaround of our fortunes, where Thaksin took over and through his contacts the Sheikh eventually bought us.

I remember the first game away at West Ham - boiling hot day and all the fans were buzzing. And the atmosphere was electric, with us all chanting 'City are back'. Then we had some fantastic moments - the home win against Newcastle and who can forget the 2 derby wins.

After the horrendous season we had under Pearce, Sven and his squad lit up the place for a good while. It's just a shame that Thaksin couldn't follow through on all his promises and seemed to lose interest in Sven from Feb/Mar onwards.

I am torn on this - this season is one of my favourites, but you would be hard pushed to describe it as a success

it's one of my favourites for reasons that others have already stated, I mean, we were *DIRE* under pearce, and all of a sudden, here's svenny boy with a group of new and exciting players in elano. petrov and a couple of star strikers in bojinov and bianchi
we had a budget, we had a squad, we were upsetting the big boys and we were enjoying the fruits of labour from the academy in johnson, micah and ireland

enjoyable?? yes, one of the best - successful? I am not so sure I would call it that, however we did qualify for europe via the fair play league, which sven had the cheek to demand his bonus for, the little fucker ! :)

This was one of my favourite ever seasons as a blue.

Totally unexpected takeover, then appointment of a manager cost me a grand when I lumped the biggest punt of my life on Ranieri. Was pretty shocked when Sven was appointed and to be honest pretty underwhelmed given his dour style with England.

I was definately not prepared for that day when we suddenly unvelied 4 or 5 signings I had never really heard of (other than Petrov), but on doing a bit of research found we had signed some serious quality and frank looked like he was putting his money where his mouth was.

It was definately a season of two halves, one in which by the 28th December when I went to Ewood Park with us in 3rd or 4th place i was starting to get giddy about the champions league. However we had punched above our weight and ran out of steam starting that night with a deflating injury time goal conceded to deny us the win which seemed to knock the wind out of our sails from that point on.

I've never been one to criticise Sven for what happened in that last half of the season, and I honestly think we made a big mistake sacking him, as others have said, I think we would be well into his dynasty by now, and the lost year under hughes would have been another year we qualified for the champions league rather than floundered in the bottom 3 by xmas.

Very fond memories of Sven, and if Mancini did leave for whatever reason, I wouldnt be disappointed to see him back

I have especially fond memories of the season cause it was my first "real" season on here. I signed up under Pearce, but didn't get really active until that season (if I remember correctly).

I also got to see Elano playing right back from the first row of the east stand. What a fantastic touch he had!

On any terms, it has to be viewed as a successful season, considering where we had come from. On a personal level, the first half of the season was, and still is one of my favourite times following City.
I thought that maybe it was just a reaction from sitting through the second half of the previous campaign under SP, with no goals, mind numbingly boring football, and to me, it seemed that we were forever losing to spuds at home on freezing cold nights. Robbie Keane and his bloody backflips.
What a contrast under Sven, the football was scintillating, the sun always seemed to be shining, the combination of Elano and Johnson was a joy to watch, I really thought we were going places with that team. So many high spots, the Newcastle FK, Giovanni bending the ball past van der Sar in the home derby, Stevie's winner against Reading, and of course the impeccable derby at the swamp.
Fond, fond memories.

I'm sure Sven had strong links with Mancini, I remember one of the son's being brought in for a trail during Sven's year.

Great time, Bluemoon was rising after the darkness of SP.

Thanks Sven.
