Having said that, many of those thinking he should get off balanced that opinion with "but the FA should support the ref". Contradictory of course but understandable. The ones that get me are those who still maintain it was a leg breaker, nasty dangerous tackle.Big Fat Sam was very clear that Vinnie was in total control of the tackle and it wasn't two footed anyway but when his words are put forward he is belittled as an old timer who played the game 30 + years ago.
But what BFS says is what it is really all about.Vinnie was in total control (which is more than could be said of Jack W) and he did only challenge with one foot. Those two basic facts are what the panel would have agreed and thus rescinded the red card.To suggest that this decision will now give licence for the thugs to start lunging into nasty tackles is just a joke but 100% typical of rubbish newspapers and the likes of TShite
The thing is; Vinny didn't actually tackle anybody. Wilshire lost control of the ball & Vinny got to it first & then was caught late by Wilshire. He didn't actually pile into Wilshire & take the ball from him; he intercepted it.
Wilshire, benefits as Shearer, did as Rooney does, he plays for England so acts like a twat, his reckless tackle has been lost in ths as has Podolskis elbow forearm on Zabba has.Samm Allerdyce has said the same it was Wilshire who was out of control, fair play to him.
True, they usually get special treatment but I have no complaints in this instance. I'm absolutely gobsmacked that justice has been done here, but I fear that if Alan Hansen & Co had decided it was a red, this ban would have stood.
If mike Dean has actually admitted it was a mistake, then I take my hat off to him, but I've seen no evidence of that so far. This looks to me like another case of trial by media & on this rare occasion, the media was largely on our side.
