Having been one of his most savage critics in his forst 18 months, I would say he is what has made the team tick since.
Aberration yesterday and there can be no repeat, but if he is on the wane, we have a huge problem as we cant afford to replace everybody!

There is no other player I've seen in recent times who reads a game like Barry. Some of the positions he takes up when the ball is elsewhere, then suddenly the oppo pass it straight to Gareth Barry, it's like a 6th sense. I've seen him running to make a challenge then suddenly he'll change direction & the ball just lands at his feet. It's fantastic imo. But he's slow & he can't afford to be slower.

Ted, reading the game is one thing. I have seen "older" players in other sports make some fine decisions, only to see their body no longer be able to execute it. That is what Barry looked like today: good intentions, but no execution. I cannot say the same about many other players on the pitch yesterday, they lacked any intensity. Joe Hart's howler pretty much summed up how much the team seemed to care.

Why? Honest question.
Not like the midfield against Liverpool shone is it?
Well, he's been missing for six weeks and i think it shows respect to those that have carried the team during that period to let them continue. You can always ease one player back into the team, slowly.
I know i would be pissed off if the manager dropped me for someone who had been on a six week jolly. Especially since before he buggered off his form had already dipped in preparation for the African jolly. It sends the wrong signals to players. Some can do what they want and still play. Poor old James was the scapegoat for this yesterday. Good lad Jim , just gets on with it.
Yaya needs to understand he has to pull his finger out , every game.

He has had a good spell at City but he is one I would consider cutting loose at the end of the season. He may still do a job for another season but he is not going to get any better as a player.
I think he has been below par this season, I wonder if his motivation has dipped. He probably never thought he would play in a league winning side. He has his medal now. He will never play in a CL winning side. He's peaked.

That is absolutely 100% how I feel about him.
He IS and always WAS a solid pro and dependable player (who always had amazing amount of handballs, mind) who never quite got the credit he deserved....but it almost seems like he went through that tunnel and came out from the other end with lot of our supporters. People talk about him like he is some super world class performer. The heart of our midfield. He isn't. And never was. He was just quietly really good for a long time.
The way I see it, the problem with him is and always was lack of pace. While his amazing anticipation usually covered for his lack of pace, it seems to me that it is finally starting to catch up with him. People will keep saying how he does amazing things quietly (and make completely overboard statements like him being best player in our midfield) but he does them less and less frequently. I agree that he has been below par most of the season. Not by a big margin but still below par. He is going to turn 32 in few weeks and he could fall off the cliff any second with him getting slower and slower every day.
I hope we move him on in summer and keep the good memories. I'd hate it all to turn bitter in the end. Funny how someone mentioned Didi Hamann. He was 32 when he joined us. Former legit world class player who had lost what little pace he ever had. He was still competent for lower mid-table team but his days at the top were past him. Three years on from that and he was done with Premier League football. I'd love us to sell him back to Aston Villa for some nominal fee. Let him finish his career with HIS team.

No matter what Barry does in his career now, in ten years time all I will remember from him was being shown up to be out of his depth at against Germany in the World Cup. They played fast flowing counter attacking football which he simply could not live with. It was that game that showed me that he will never play at the highest table of football.
I recall the race between him and Ozil for Germany's 4th goal. At first I thought he was playing for offside, or that he had torn a hamstring.

A game in which he was exposed by the rest of team of the team providing no cover and a game in which he wasn't fully fit.
But yeah, remember him for one game for England and not for winning three trophies with City
