I'm not suggesting we shouldn't take the 'competition' seriously. It's a one-off match!

Win or lose, it's a friendly, and there's no glory attached to the trophy in and of itself.

Exactly; it's a friendly.

Like we do when we beat them mate? Every game is important in my eyes and one where you can walk away with a trophy is even more so.

3 trophies in 2 seasons, not bad at all.

Its a nonsense, nothing more than a preseason friendly.

Players arent even 100% match fit.

It smacks of desperation to even mention it in the same breath as the League title,FA cup and, what is way out of our current managers capabilities,The European Cup.

The European equivalent is the Super Cup - we'd claim that as a trophy.

I'm with Beefy on this one.

Every other team who has ever won this cup will have a record of it in their trophy rooms so, in my book, what's good for them is good enough for us.

I disagree about The World Club Cup, it is a major Trophy.

Yea, but I'd still like to win the next one. ;)

It's the Confederations Cup of club football. Barely a trophy, never mind a major one.

No.

We beat them in a cup semi final, which is the semi final of the world's most famous domestic cup & a reasonable backup prize for those not good enough to win the league. They beat us in the Charity Shield, which is fuck all, but were upset we had won a trophy & were coming after them, so claimed it as important .

We laughed at them because of it.

Most of us still do & will again if they do the same next season.

It's a pre season friendly which doesn't even sell out.

It's all about opinions Ted and mine is that I will class it as a *trophy. What's the point in competing if it's not a competition?

The Charity Shield is an abject season opening friendly nonsense that nobody takes seriously and interferes with the pre season preparation. It is not worth winning and any fans who try and big it up are sad bastards.

UNLESS CITY WIN IT...THEN IT BECOMES AN IMPORTANT MAJOR TROPHY, OPEN ONLY TO THE BEST CLUBS IN THE COUNTRY AND WINNING IT IS A GREAT HONOUR.

Beyond that...it's shite.

The same point as all the other pre season friendlies, & it's expected, & it's for charity.

The same point as all the other pre season friendlies, & it's expected, & it's for charity.

And that's how we saw it, as a charity friendly. Once we won it, it became another piece of silverware. Nobody is saying it is a major trophy, nobody is bigging it up to be more than it is but it doesn't mean we can't mention it just because a few feel it's beneath them.

And just for shits and giggles:

Manchester City

First Division Title winner: 1967–68
FA Cup winner: 1969
Football League Cup winner: 1969–70
European Cup Winners' Cup winner: 1970
FA Charity Shield winner: 1968
FA Charity Shield runner-up: 1969
Second Division Title winner: 1965–66

If its a trophy then the scum won ONE trophy last year ... if its not, they went trophy less last season while we became Champions ...

Before you make up your minds, consider this season ... we count it as a trophy means our season will end with at least one trophy ... we don't, we might end up trophy- less ...

I think till last season we all were saying its not a trophy, as the scum had it and that's all they had so making a point that they went trophy-less was, well 'nice' ... but since this season it's us in that position, we see the moods shift. You'll see if we win FA Cup this season, many would leave it (charity shield) in its place ... But god forbid, we lose the FA Cup and that'll be all we have and thus will somehow start to feel a little more important to us ... that's just how the mind works.

For Mancini, he's counting, year 1 (full seasons only, not counting that half season) ... so his mind is saying year 1: FA Cup, year 2: Premier League and year 3: (at least) Charity Shield ...

Not to me. It means next to nothing, if that much.

You get a proper trophy for winning a competition, not a match. A friendly match.

I agree with that, but I lumped them together because it's open to debate. It depends on a club's circumstances I suppose.

Last year Chelsea were desperate to win the CL. We were desperate to win the PL. Even if Liverpool were still qualifying for the CL, they'd much rather win the PL.

I get more of a buzz from the thought of us winning the league, for sure.
