Its not just that though is it? -
we're not even in the chase for the title we're 15 points off it FFS, we crashed out of europe in the group stages without winning a single game, got kicked from the league cup early on and the fact is we've had an easy ride in the FA cup and that is the reason we're still in it
get real - there are players in our team that aren't good enough or interested enough in playing for the club - they need to go, we need to freshen up the squad and try again
Wooders wrote:whilst that maybe true (for the league) - it doesn't alter the fact we're in the shade of UTD and we need to do something about it

To illustrate further, the average number of points for champions in 20-team Premier League era is 85.41 - Even if you took the median of 87, we'd still be in the hunt more years than not. We just have to say too good/ too lucky/ bit of both this year and prepare for next year. Scum finished 18 points off Chelsea one year they didn't panic. The key is not to panic and take it in our stride. Last 5 minutes of 2 games went wrong and set the tone for the season, Real Madrid away and the Scum at our place. With a lack of squad depth and bad luck with injuries we have failed to get into full flow, we are still in with a chance of silverware though and there is more to come from this squad as players settle in or recover from injury. A big clear out isn't the answer.

Is three points usually enough to go close in a Champions League group too?

Sign some TOP players maybe, (unlike last summer) signing Richard Wright as 3rd choice goalie.....what on earth ???

Just like people said we'd blew it in the earlier part of the year, it was exactly the same scenario so we can't use it both ways to beat the manager with. The very fact that we have the trophy in our cabinet speaks volumes of our season. We won, they lost, the argument about these 'Ifs and buts' is a moot point, only used to try and prove soemthing that doesn't exist. What actually amazes me is that this is actually used against him when the truth is we all knew that United would drop points whereas we went on a 6 game winning streak beating them in the process.

RSC, Bridge, Kolo, Maicon = £380k per week
Lescott, Barry = £8m and £150k per week
Other possibles
Nasri and Tevez = £30m and £350k per week
So we should have an exciting summer, without further funds we could have £73m and £1.2m per week to spend.

but you see peter, you can buy players - thats how the transfer window works

Do we really want to get rid of Barry and Lescott. Maybe they are not the top leading players we need to move forward but aren't they exactly what we need in the squad.Really good experienced players who can do a good job when drafted in to give the "first team" a break.Maybe the pertinent question is whether such players would be happy to stay if their expected role is diminished.I would put Carlos in this category as well. For me he is still quality and if it's true that he is now enjoying Manchester he would be great to have in the squad.
I get the feeling both would.Others like Sinclair should go as they need to make a career playing somewhere at their true standard. Kolarov I would be happy to see go and maybe Edin but that might be it for me.We could go out and get the real deal striker, another star midfield attacking goalscorer and a couple of top defenders
