To illustrate further, the average number of points for champions in 20-team Premier League era is 85.41 - Even if you took the median of 87, we'd still be in the hunt more years than not. We just have to say too good/ too lucky/ bit of both this year and prepare for next year. Scum finished 18 points off Chelsea one year they didn't panic. The key is not to panic and take it in our stride. Last 5 minutes of 2 games went wrong and set the tone for the season, Real Madrid away and the Scum at our place. With a lack of squad depth and bad luck with injuries we have failed to get into full flow, we are still in with a chance of silverware though and there is more to come from this squad as players settle in or recover from injury. A big clear out isn't the answer.
Is three points usually enough to go close in a Champions League group too?
You don't think that impacted the whole campaign? My summer clearout would start with twats like you.
Ok fuckflaps. I answered your apologist post with a flippant remark to make a point.
But here's the rub. We haven't competed this year in the slightest. The Real Madrid game was a defining game, but not in the way you're hinting at. We went to Madrid and were set up to lose, and unsurprisingly lost. We played like frightened men. They absolutely took us to the cleaners and should have been five up by half time, the fact they weren't was almost entirely down to Joe Hart playing out of his skin.
When discussing games that defined are season, you should include are, Sunderland , Ajax , Liverpool , Stoke and West Ham all away. Games where we have struggled and stuttered our way to poor results without ever looking like winning, when we should have done. They are ultimately what has cost us this season.
It is a nonsense to talk of a weak squad and injuries, because we have the most expensive squad in the Premier League. We haven't had a freakishly long injury list and even yesterday still fielded a team littered with international players. A forward pairing costing over fifty milllion and probably earning 350k a week between them. A defence that cost tens of millions and again paid some of the highest wages in the league. We fielded players that other clubs could only dream of having. So that is a load of bullshit excuses.
The reason for this season's poor effort is Bob. That's it, get used to it.
City and sniffing knickers.
Come on Blues.
