Why would he want to come and sit on our bench? To keep Sinclair company so he does not feel lonely when discussing putting money ahead of your career.
The number 2 keeper slot is a hard one to fill. You either have to get an experienced keeper at the end of his career looking for one last pay day or an unknown kid looking for a bit of big club experience like we did with Panto. The problem with taking an unknown is you are shitting bricks when he is called upon in a big game.
Someone like Thomas Sorensen or Jussi Jaaskelainen would be ideal.

If he gets a chance to play for a big club, with a decent salary and a chance to win a couple of cups, he might be tempted. It could even help improve him, since he can get to work with Hart and good coaches. He could be the "unknown kid looking for big club experience".
(Although you can argue that since he plays in the PL, he does get exposure, but I haven't seen him hugely hyped or being connected with any other big club so far.)

We should hold Costel to his contract but put him out on loan to a premiership side (newly promoted?) to get the exposure and experience he needs - as we did with Joe when Shay was with us.
Can't sell him while the juries out on who's the better of the 2 stoppers, would keep him if he gets the game-time and will, in any event, sell him for more if he proves himself in regular play.
IMHO it's a no brainer really.
But he said he wants to leave.

Yes, I agree that he said he wants to leave but listen up because he added a reason to support his statement. That reason was that he wants to leave because he needs game time - exactly as per Joe Harts noises prior to his loan spell with brum.
Think it over - Joe and Shay were both good keepers and Joe proven himself while on loan. You think we should have sold him? I'll guess not and I'm just applying that logic to the Joe v Costel situation that we now have - I suspect that Costel may prove himself the better of the two because he already has attributes that Joe hasn't developed (fast & accurate distribution / goal area domination etc.) I may be wrong in that but I'd like to see them both playing in the perm. If nothing else it'd at least focus Joe and dear me he needs some focus regardless of his clean sheet record (much to do with sitting behind the best defence in the country IMO). the FA final was a prime example of Joe not having a lot to do because our defence was superior to wigan's - but he was outperformed by the wigan keeper and we lost it. I wouldn't have mentioned it if it were an isolated incident but there have been many more across the season and I think that Joe's drop off in performance lost us at least 10 points this term - 1 at least against the rags at our end. Ergo; Don't sell Costel. :-)

Manchester City ready to sign Isco from Malaga as Manuel Pellegrini edges closer to Etihad Stadium hot seat
Manchester City are aiming to complete a £17 million deal for Malaga winger Isco after moving closer to securing Manuel Pellegrini as successor to the sacked Roberto Mancini at the Etihad Stadium.
Although Malaga would not officially confirm reports in Spain on Wednesday that their 59-year-old coach would be free to leave the club following the last game of the season, at Barcelona on June 1, it is understood that the Chilean will not be held to his contract this summer.
With Malaga facing financial difficulties, the Champions League quarter-finalists will reluctantly sanction the sale of Isco, who was revealed as a Manchester City target by Telegraph Sport last November, to any club that triggers the £17 million escape clause in the 21-year-old’s contract.
City sporting director Txiki Begiristain has identified Isco as a target having watched the player in recent weeks, but having earned his first full Spain cap against Uruguay in February the youngster is also attracting the attention of Real Madrid.
Pellegrini’s impending move to Manchester City – the club are hopeful of an agreement being finalised at the beginning of June – is expected to boost the club’s prospects of winning the race for Isco, however.
City, meanwhile, will announce plans on Thursday to increase the capacity of the Etihad Stadium by 6,000 seats.

Who, Platt?

All of these keepr names: McCarthy, Sorensen, etc. are all good keepers but none of them will want to be #2, even if it is at a top club. Chances are, they're football players and want to play football.
I think this is the hardest position to recruit for. They have to be skilled but also willing to deputise Hart and hardly play...

Can't see it being him mate as he fucked off from notlob to Wigwam for being permanent understudy to Jaaskelainen and as decent a keeper as he is, he is prone to spectacular cock-ups. Would prefer the previously mentioned McCarthy from Reading as I have a feeling that the number two keeper will be getting more game time next season.
The Daily Star claims that Manuel Pellegrini - whose current club, Malaga, confirmed that they will let him go this summer - has told Etihad chiefs that he wants Malaga star Isco to head that shortlist.
The Sun backs up the report, with both papers that a deal is all but done for the 21-year-old winger, who has also drawn interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona.
As for the other four players? Real Madrid's Angel di Maria, Sevilla duo Jesus Navas and Geoffrey Kondogbia, and Borussia Dortmund’s £32m-rated winger Marco Reus.
