Whilst i won't argue with that, it's not about that - As somebody else has already said, if you can quit supporting any team you weren't truly a fan in the first place!

Eh? Why did you shake your head? This is a great thread, everyone is singing combaya together and loving city.
I never said I was thinking about quitting City, I was just curious about other people's experiences.
Even Hornby quit Arsenal for a few years but he seems to be as hardcore as they come so I actually don't think there's any shame if anyone's ever contemplated it or done it. Piccs seems to have thought about it a couple of times, albeit very briefly, but I can't imagine many, if any, who are more dedicated to this club.
I'm going to assume you were unlucky when you thought what you were going to post in this thread.
I considered not renewing my season ticket once. Part of the reason I didn't was knowing I would be pacing round the house waiting for the ceefax screen to change and listening to Brian Clarke's shit commentary on the radio.
Or that stupid "it's a goalllll" or "ohhhhhh no" thing Piccadilly Radio used to do. Pure panic until you heard Bury had conceded a fourth at Port Vale.
I can remember many times walking away from the back of the Kippax after another inept 0-1 to some no mark team thinking "I wish I didn't care" But I do, it's why it's a life sentence.

I have thought about quitting forums though because I'm often appalled by the shit attitude of some posters towards other City fans and those offensive posters are quite often amongst the most regular posters. Is it that they're such shit-heads that they don't have real mates so must live in the virtual world of the forum where they can mouth off without getting the smack in the gob response they'd get in any real scenario?
The new arrogance is also perplexing - all that small club attitude shit about 'new fans wouldn't know what it's like' - and from longstanding jaded supporters too - total bollox of course as football support is more akin to love than any other emotion and nothing burns brighter than new love does it?

Whats so fuckign arrogant about stating how would a newish fan know what its like to be demoted twice, playing against Maclesfield town on a rainy fucking day ? Im more perplexed how cunts like you are so baffled by a comment like this.

Carl, I bet life's perplexing to you in general isn't it?
If you check carefully you'll see that I didn't write anything about "a newish fan knowing what its like to be demoted twice, playing against Maclesfield town on a rainy fucking day". That was your imagination taking over and putting the experience that you think makes you a better man than anyone else, into the thread in a 'look at me I'm the loyalest' sort of way.
And anyhow, yes, it is arrogant to presume that your love for a club is greater in any respect to another person's and I'm not going to get into a pissing match with you about who was anywhere because it simply doesn't matter does it.
So no I wasn't baffled - you were confused.
Oh, and I'm not going to explain what a cunt is to you because that would be condescending and I'll bet that you're sick of people being condescending towards you all the time aren't you?
I suggest that you go look it up on google - you might even find yourself attracted to one once you know what it is.

Has that happened to you often? Just asking because I haven't seen much of that around here nor amongst cityfans in Sweden. Well, the kids who are like 8-10-12 have some different outlook on what City should be able to do and not, granted, but otherwise I don't see that. That much anyway.

You seem like a strange fellow. You've a lot to say and yet disclose next to nothing; I remember reading in your introductory post that you were an old-timer (from Yorkshire?) and yet you write like an American and use American terms ('math', 'shit-head'). You also seem to have a major bee in your bonnet about the old vs. new fans thing. I feel like half your posts are on this subject, or something closely related.
Not having a go, just find it/you interesting!

You're right - I remember sliding down the hill in the mud then trying to thumb a lift home after the game (without luck), I must've been about 14 at the time and had wagged school to go to the midweek night match - springfield park it was if that matters but I don't think it does.
As it happens, yes it does matter about turning out at Macclesfiel when we were shit, (although Macc aint far away) Football crowds drop off as teams play shit football and drop down the leagues, but at City, our crowds went uo as we got shitter and collectively we can be proud of our turn outs in the third tier. And if you were one of those who stayed loyal through the shittest of times when other supposedly loyal fans deserted their team (e.g Newcastle or Leeds) then nobody can question your loyalty and you SUPPORTED your club when it was needed.
I don't think that it's in our gift to question anyone's loyalty for reasons on newness because how you feel about a cause is a personal matter that can't be measured.
Newer supporters now have to put up with the accusations of 'gloryhunting' and it could be unfair that they do, but those older ones amongst us have proved our commitment to the cause. If we'd turned our backs en masse, the club might have gone under. So yes, it does matter.
Consider Sheik Mansour , he's a relatively new supporter and he's probably put a smaller portion of his total life earnings into City than I have but that doesn't make me a better fan or more important to the good of the club - I just like to think that he and I are both City supporters and that we share that in common.
Alain. I'm not miserable at all, I'm Mr Chuckles.
And if you stick with me kid, you'll learn stuff and won't go too far wrong.
Mase wrote:Damn. I thought this was going to be a goodbye post by one of the members.
Anyway. I had a season ticket when Pearce was in charge but for the last few games of the season didn't bother going. Says a lot when I used to go full time when we were in Division 2. He nearly stopped me going.
If we'd signed Rooney a couple of seasons ago I would have packed football.
