Like this transfer.... and if Jovetic comes as well I think we'll be looking good in the final third.

Inside Forward/Winger on the Left
Silva/Navas/Agero

Inside Forward/Winger on the Right
Jovetic/Nasri/Aguero

Centre Forward
Negredo/Aguero/Dzeko/Guidetti

I think that gives us great options up front. I don't really consider Jovetic a true out and out centre forward, but would probably play well as part of a front three.

Assuming Guidetti Stays, we have 4 True strikers. I feel that Aguero will be used more as an inside forward to complement the attack. Or of course we could have a front three of Aguero Dzeko Negredo.

Really, when you think about it, the options we can implement are almost endless. 5 in midfield with the 5 made up of mainly holding players, or the 5 could be made up entirely of attacking players!

I just can't shake the feeling that with this much flexibility and this many options that someone will be leaving. Nasri? Garcia?...

The word potent springs to mind.

You've missed the hole. (That's what she said!)

Silva, JoJo, Yaya.

And what's with the Football Manager terms?

I always miss the hole.... less said of that the better!

In that case, it at least provide less options than I was suggesting, but still plenty of options if and when needed. Forza [strike]Mancini[/strike] Pellegrini.... Not sure that still has the same ring to it TBH.

Ah fuck it.... bring on the season already!

Well, I suppose the easier way is to put it into an 18 and a 25. Assuming we sign JoJo which at this point is the only other signing that looks likely.

Homegrown Trained in country

Starting: Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany, Lescott, Clichy, Fernandinho, Yaya, Navas, JoJo, Silva, Aguero.

Bench: Costel, Nastasic, Richards, Milner, Nasri, Negrado, Dzeko.

Squad: Johansen, Kolarov, Barry, Rodwell, Garcia, Sinclair, Guidetti

Anyone notice what's missing?

Well the good news for you Dave is you're right, the bad news is two of those players will miss out on the Champions League, one for the 4th centrehalf I haven't listed(unless Garcia is moving there full time) and one because we only have 3 homegrown players. Last season I think we named 23 players in our CL squad for this very reason(if you can't fill the requirements, you can leave spaces instead). The solution of course is to name Rekik to the CL squad and then pick 24 of the players listed(Guidetti, Johansen and Richards all have to be retained) and I would think in that instance, Sinclair would be the one to miss out but Rekik against the likes of Messi, Ronaldo, Ibra, etc. Well as much as I like the lad, we'd be better served putting a wheelie bin out there.

Boyata has resurfaced of course. Could it be for this reason ? Does he count as 'club trained' ?

Not that he would fare very well against Messi, but neither would Vinny. Boyata might nut Ibrahimovic in the back of the head & tread on his foot though.

Boyata doesn't show up on either list, which is a bit weird. He actually does count and would fair better than Karim. Obviously I took it to the extreme to highlight the point and didn't really need to.

That could be why it appears the Pepe and Marquinhos rumours are dying down. Solves homegrown issues and the defender spot. I would certainly play him in the LC, any lower FA Cup matches and hopefully against some obscure 4th pot club we undoubtedly won't get.

Thanks for this. Can you elaborate on the 18 and 25 and the requirements? It is always something that has baffled me.

Cheers.

18 is the 11 on the pitch and 7 on the bench.

25 is the maximum squad size for domestic and Champions League squads.

League Squad:
No more than 25 players .
Anyone under the age of 21 doesn't have to be registered in order to be eligible to play.
8 players out of your 25 have to be trained for 3 years with ANY club in England before they are 21.
On my colour coding, all players not in white count towards that total.

Champions League Squad:
No more than 25 players .
Anyone under the age of 21 who has been at the club for a continuous period of 2 or more years doesn't have to be registered in order to be eligible to play.
4 players out of your 25 have to be trained for 3 years with ANY club in England before they are 21.
An additional 4 players have to be trained for 3 years at the club before they are 21.
On my colour coding, blue players are club trained, green are country trained.

25 allowed.

17 players without restricions. 8 players must be 'association trained' ie: came through the system in this country for at least 3 years between the age of 15 & 21

For Uefa though, 4 of those players must be 'home trained' ie: came through the system at our club for at least 3 years between the age of 15 & 21

Here is the link to the official UEFA rules document. Might be worth making it permanent on the site somewhere ?

hey slim rekik is on loan with PSV for the season, so he won't be joining us in the UCL this year.

boyata is a good shout to make the 25 man squad - he's the only defender with the squad i can think of who is remotely ready for first team action.

you also forgot richard wright, who i assume will be in the PL squad list, but not the UCL squad list. he signed a 1 year extension, though i have no clue why.

I was listing the Champions League squad, not the Premier League. But I honestly don't think he is worth including in either squad TBH. His one year.....FUCKING HELL, Agar went right through Bell, how the fuck?....extension is to bring him into a coaching role I believe.

i do wonder where johansen's future will be this coming season - i kind of hope he ends up on loan at a championship club where he will get regular matches. lawlor and gunn should be playing with the EDS all season to continue their development, so if we plan on keeping johansen around, he's a bit in the cold.

not sure if the powers that be think he is good enough to be a backup down the road or not, but having him train regularly and never play a match seems like a waste of time for everyone.

I am sure I said this exact same thing a couple of days ago, I think the best thing for the club is keeping him to include in the squad, the best thing for him at this age is playing 1st team football or his development will stall. A loan to league one or championship(maybe?) side in the northwest would work a treat.

Thanks for those posts Slim. The 25 thing is what is confusing. I feel incredibly dumb, and I'm sure I am, because it still doesn't make sense to me.
