There is one simple explanation to this whole thing - corruption.
The European Club Association was founded in 2008 to replace the G18 which had previously been the G14. However the original members of the old boys brigade which was Barcelona (Spain)
Real Madrid (Spain)
Liverpool (England)
Manchester United (England)
Internazionale (Italy)
Juventus (Italy)
Milan (Italy)
Marseille (France)
Paris Saint-Germain (France)
Bayern Munich (Germany)
Borussia Dortmund (Germany)
Ajax (Netherlands)
PSV (Netherlands)
Porto (Portugal)
With the Arse , Valencia, Lyon and Bayer Leverkusen joining by invitation in 2002.
Following Italian match fixing discoveries Milan and several other Italian clubs were banned from the 2006-2007 ECL. This ban was seen as unreasonable by many of the G14 and somehow despite being banned from the competition Milan went on to win it.
The real issue is that clubs like City, Chelsea, PSG etc are backed by owners with more cash than Croesus. Teams like the scum, Real etc are dependent on trading to exist. Shark in the water syndrome. Stop swimming start drowning. That's why in my opinion FFP exists. To protect the sharks.

I believe this may have been dragged down a bit but these people who say these clubs make huge profits are making it up - they live on the edge waiting for the next bail-out, both Barca and Real.
Valencia too have membership. They have been 400M in debt for ages and every so often get a new sub off the City or a fiver each off all the members to keep going.
Anyone who says this membership thing is a great model is an idiot on this evidence.
And importantly, in UEFA's defence, one of the cronies (cant remember who) said that one of the points they have to address is:
"Why should one owner not be allowed to put his money in, when 100,000 owners are allowed to put theirs in".
Cant argue with that - and another point they had to address was the unfair imbalance in Spanish TV money.
All bad news for 'the arrogant two'.

If a club like City was to be singled out for receiving help, lets say via sponsorship from companies connected with Abu Dhabi, then every other club who receives help or sponsorship via interested parties must also suffer the same level of scrutiny.
That causes problems for most of them imo.
I just don't see how this whole thing can possibly work in its current form. It's fine to talk about it, but to actually start applying sanctions is going to open such a can of worms. Ijust don't believe it will happen with this current criteria. It needs changing.
If however, Platini stopped trying to help Utd, Bayern, Milan etc fix the competitions & actually, honestly, went after ensuing genuine 'fair play' the whole thing would be much easier to implement.
Stopping owners of clubs from borrowing money they can't afford to pay back, & threatening their clubs' existence, would be piss easy. As we have also seen in this thread, the EU are themselves having to look into dodgy practices loading competition in Spain, so UEFA don't even have to take the lead there.
It's the very fact that Platini & Co are actively trying to help the G14 clubs retain power, by capping genuine investment in football, which is the main headache for FFP & could bring the whole thing down.
Make the owners guarantee the debt themselves & put the cash into the club, & the problem is gone. Then they can weed out the dodgy owners & stop people from endangering the clubs' futures. It's that simple.
We all know that isn't what it's designed for though, it's just the way of buttering it up to make the real purpose of blatant corruption less obvious.
