The whole 'wide pitch' is a myth I wonder why it still goes on ... from last season all pitches are same exact size so yes even stoke had to open up theirs and I think we had to shrink our sidelines a bit ... all 20 PL grounds now exactly the same size so get over it!

He's way behind on his preseason work due to injury that's why. I doubt he'll start, but he may well feature later in the game. So long as someone keeps that little French git off the left wing I've no qualms.

Samir needs to be sold and another fast winger brought in to balance up the side with Navas in it, Silva is most effective in the centre. Defenders have already started double teaming Jesus, although I wish he would at least try to skin players more often. He could be a set piece providing machine like SWP used to be if he tried.

I heard several commentators and pundits refer to standard pitch sizes last season so went to check, there's a downloadable 'Premier League Handbook 2012/2013' which has a section on pitches (section K): (incidentally I think the RAGs were in breach of K.27. last season but nothing was done about it as far as I know)

SECTION K: GROUND CRITERIA
K.21. Unless otherwise permitted by the Board, in League Matches the length of the pitch shall be 105 metres and its breadth 68 metres.

K.22. The Board shall only give permission to a Club for the dimensions of its pitch to be other than as set out in Rule K.21 if it is impossible for it to comply with Rule K.21 due to the nature of the construction of its ground.

K.23. For UEFA Club Competitions the pitch must measure 105 metres in length by 68 metres in breadth exactly. If for technical reasons of a construction related nature it is impossible to achieve the required dimensions a UEFA Club Licence may nevertheless be granted provided that the pitch is minimum 100 metres to maximum 105 metres in length by minimum 64 metres to maximum 68 metres in breadth.

K.24. A Club shall register the dimensions of its pitch before the commencement of each Season by giving written notice thereof in Form 8 to the Secretary.

K.25. The Board may at any time require a Club to obtain and submit to the Secretary a report by an independent expert certifying its pitch dimensions.

I was actually surprised to see Everton's (formerly) having the same width as ours: of course the overall impression you get would be depending on how close the stands are to the pitch, and also the width of the perimeter area.
Interesting that the directive you quote was only brought in last season, though..

As far as practricable pitch sizes should be identical, of course, but do all League and Championship sides have the capacity to have pitches of that dimension?

Obviously not an authentic source but just another blog ... as others have answered, it was all over news and each game especially Stoke games that commentators and pundits kept referring to how they have had to move their side lines right to the edge of their grounds to meet new standard pitch sizes by PL.

I'm on holiday and checking the forum on and off on my phone, will search up and find you authentic links when back in another week's time but am pretty certain this happened last year on. Yes, the year before, the title winning season, we did have a wider and longer pitch than the rest.

Now you mention it I seem to recall commentators mentioning Stoke having changed the dimensions of their pitch but I don't recall any mention of a rigidity in pitch dimensions: I thought there was always a certain degree of flexibility, not least because of ground size
(and hasn't Wembley traditionally been larger than any other pitch, or has it had to conform, also?)

Didn't Stoke have to change the size of their pitch because of UEFA's rules, not PL?
I'll have a couple of hours to kill soon while I'm at airport so I'll try to find facts either way.
