This was exactly what I thought when I saw the goal in replay. "Why didn't he use two hands?" Of course Dazby already knew!
Would you mind sharing more of your thoughts on Hart Dazby? I'd be very interested to read them. (no sarcasm, no irony, pure interest)
I've related to a lot of the errors he's made over the past 18 months, as I've made them myself. They are all errors of concentration. But I don't play for City. He can be excused the odd blunder, but the catalogue is growing too rapidly.
Joes greatest games have been ones where he's had plenty of work to do. He makes some saves, his bollocks grows, he gets in the zone.
Think back to the stats of his bad games. 4 shots on target, 3 goals. 2 on target, 1 goal. One of the hardest things to do as a keeper is stay mentally alert for the full 90 minutes with only a couple of things to do for a whole game. Nothing, nothing, nothing, really intense moment requiring perfect movement and technique, nothing, nothing, nothing.
How do you stay mentally up? Get involved, boss the defence, push forward, demand back passes, keep moving, stretch. I'd be really interested to know from those at the ground what he does when the ball is past half way. Is he yelling? Is he waving? Is he constantly on the move? Or does he do bare minimum?
All of his howlers suggest to me that he's suffering concentration issues. He has the tools to be world class, and the Joe of two seasons ago was world class. Since we won the league, his concentration has slipped. We don't know why, but it has.
His one arm dives bug the crap out of me. But, it's how he was trained and there's no changing it. It got him this far.
Can he get out of his slump? Of course. How? Who knows? But I hope his coach does. He's got plenty of time to get it back. It is time to drop him and make him fight for his spot again. That's for sure. If we're not going to play the Pants there's no point in keeping him.
