Why City have the greatest history in world football

Why City have the greatest history in world football

Postby MCFChistory » Thu Dec 05, 2013 6:42 pm

I've just relaunched my Purely Man City website with a feature about City's historical importance.

http://purelymancity.blogspot.co.uk/

I'm also plugging the newly-released second edition of my book, A Man's Game: The Birth of Mancunian Football and the Origins of Manchester City FC, which uncovers a lot of new evidence about the club's origins. So far it's had great reviews, including one from Lee (the Mancityfans one, not Franny) which you can read via the link.

It's an exciting time for anyone interested in City's history. A guy called Philip Neale has just published a book about our 1936-37 title winning season, while Paul Toovey is about to bring out his third book on the club's early years.

One name is conspicuous by its absence. I sense that the two of you do not see eye-to-eye.

Still, sounds very interesting and I shall have a scan of it first time I see a copy.

A trouble causer, eh? Actually, I was referring only to newly-published books, but if we're talking about ones published in the last year or so then Manchester: the City Years is a wonderful book, and Teenage Kicks also deserves a special mention.

I'm only messing, mate (but the two of you did have a minor tiff on here a while back). I like Gary's books but I'll keep an eye out for yours as well.

Glad to see the site up and running again, mate. Got your book and I've got one of Toovey's books already on the very early years and enjoyed them both greatly. Do you know if Toovey's new book's out before Christmas as it'd be a nice little present (for me)?

Thanks. At the moment there are at least nine people researching City's history, so I believe we can look forward to some great additions to the club's already impressive bibliography.

I believe it's due out in January, but I'll let you know if I hear anything more concrete.

A new book about the history of city. Man. I wish American clubs were as interested in the past as English football.
I can't even find a book about the New York Jets!

you're kidding, right?
Never criticise a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
That way when you do criticise him you'll be a mile away.
And you'll have his shoes.

Well then, all the tightwads on here can win a copy of the book on Purely Man City (link at the top of the page). I'm running a competition to predict the starting line-up for today's game. I've no idea how many people will enter, but if only one person bothers he'll win the book, no matter how shitty his (or her) prediction was.
