Am I reading the official table from Uefa correctly: http://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/season=2014/standings/round=2000479/group=2002727/index.html
Because it looks like we would have had to win 5-2 to achieve equal +/-. This table was updated after we won 3-2.

5-2 would have left both teams on equal goal difference, but if teams are level on points, then the results of the fixtures between the 2 teams determines who finishes higher.
Bayern beat us 3-1, we beat them 3-2, therefore, they finish top.
If we'd had won 4-2, our result would have been better, and so we would have been top.

Was this some divine intervention that Pellers would unleash if he had known? It wasn't like all 11 players decided to camp our own 18 yard box and hold on for the victory because we'd never score two, we even had a chance at the death to score the 4th, so not like it wasn't being sought after whether they knew it would be enough or not.

This has been mentioned at least 5 fucking times to the deaf and dumb, yet still they harp on about it.
Pellers was spot on.

Our manager quite rightly protected him and took him off , Silva was our main source of creativity and threat to Bayern so Pellegrini quite rightly shored up the midfield and protected what we had once he had to go off ....... tactics paid off handsomely . Well done Pellegrini well done the mighty blues and Pellegrini has gone to great lengths before and after the Bayern game that he / we arent afraid of who we get in the last 16. So once again FUCK Sky Sports and their agenda ......... AWESOME NIGHT FOR MCFC........BRING ON WHOEVER !

Add to that if Pellers would have gone for the fourth like they are crying about and we conceded. This thread would be them bitching about that and not securing the 3-2 win.

However, it is still a fuck-up on our part. The club should have known this. Whether it would have changed Pellegrini's substituions or not we'll never know. All I ask is that they make sure something as stupid as this doesn't happen again!

We also never know if the Bayern players were aware would they have played differently.

Not one person has said it wasn't a fantastic result, not one. No one is saying it wasn't a great performance but the fans are allowed to be slightly bemused about the fact it appears our own players/management did not know what score was required to top the group.
It was amateurish on our behalf. I mean James Milner said he didn't know if we needed to win 4-2 or 5-2 to top the group. How can our own players not know!? I've played in various sunday league and 5 a side tournaments and I've never gone into a game not knowing what scores we needed to do what and I'm not payed thousands a week!
Yes the result and performance was wonderful, but it doesn't mean we can't raise issues of our players/management not knowing what score we needed. It's true that even if they did know there was no guarantee we'd have scored again, but that's irrelevant to the fact they should have known in the first place.
That's all people are saying.
