A little fewer than that. A defender to play in a defensive possition is first, any defender should be able to fill in at RB - just have to have someone in front of them like Milner who can help cover and drive forward as you wouldnt want a temp RB bombing forward at the wrong time.

What was noticable against Fulham is when Riise had the run of that side of the park, Cliche pretty much had two players to contend with. As soon as we brought Navas on it either pegged Riise back taking pressure off Cliche, or Riise was left in a forward possition and Navas scored - so in that situation having a more attacking player in front of Cliche meant Cliche didnt need to get forward to help in any attack (as before then we had little width without him forward) and it screwed the LB over.

James would be wasted in RB, and 'filling in' for 5 or 10 mins while the RB is off the pitch or wandering off somewere - which seems to be what most people are basing thier idea on, is totally different than playing there for 90 mins.

I think I'd be more comfortable with Boyata at right back than any of our current options. Which is not to say I think he's any good, I just think we have a very shallow pool when it comes to fullbacks.

The proper version of Clichy would be fine, but he can't play left back either this season. I'd (reluctantly) go with Boyata, but I think the Count will play Clichy again, as technically the goal wasn't actually his fault, he just fell over whilst covering a mistake by Demichelis, plus most of the threats came down the other side where Kolarov wasn't.

I'll raise my hand and say that if the Count won't play James as a central MF and push Silva or Nasri up to pair the Beast then I want Milner at RB over Boyata.

I don't buy the argument that he can't organize around him so that we can have his attacking presence felt down the right.
I'd rather have Jimmy on the pitch for 90 than on the subs bench.

This is a reason why Milner should be there, boyata would be too risky against him, but its pointless as clichy will start.

What 90 minute session has he done in defence to say he'd be better at RB?

Now in front of Boyata or Cliche i agree - peg Johnson back in his own half and make it a risk for him to come forward and you negate his attack. We're shit defending so defend using attack.

5 man midfield is the key to protecting the back four, reduce how much we rely on the RB to cone forward and we'll be cool.
